Vampire Survivors (Steam, Game Pass) OUT NOW

I get from a visual point of view why you might compare this to a rogue like or bullet hell game, but this really is more of a tower defense game than anything else. It's just that your tower has legs and can walk about.

Yep, I've just tried it for the first time and echo this. It makes the player too passive and the early stages really dull. The first five minutes seem to be the same each time, then it ramps up, then you're dead.

It's only the breadcrumbs laid by the permanent unlocks that feel compelling. Gameplay-wise, I'm not drawn back by the thought of spending the early parts of each game just running away and moving between enemies.

It lacks the punch of something like Hades' combat. For bullet hell shooting, it lacks the immediacy and agency of Enter the Gungeon.

If it helps, this is exactly how I felt for the first couple of hours playing. I really like it now.

Recommend levelling Gold up first, it makes getting to the good stuff a lot quicker.

Don't forget, you can refund upgrades at any time and either use the gold to unlock new characters or reallocate your upgrades in a different way.

The early game will vary greatly depending on who and what you've unlocked, as well as which upgrades you get from those first few level ups. There's definitely a couple of configurations that can be a bit tame early doors, but even for those it really doesn't take long before that period is over and the goodness that lies beyond is so worth it! :nod:

I think level 151 is my personal best so far.

Cleared the first level last night with 3 evolved weapons that was fun

I normally evolve water, lightning, garlic, Bible, knives and whip.

All 6 evolved makes me a magnet for collecting orbs and keeps everyone away.

The evolved pigeons and pentagram are mental.

What do you need for evolving Garlic, lightning and Bible?
So far I've only managed to evolve the Whip, Wand, Pigeon and sacred water.

The main item (lightning for example) needs to be at Mac level, you then need to have collected the corresponding secondary item, then kil a mini boss and the item that spawns will be the upgraded lightning.

Kills all enemies on screen every 90 seconds but also gets rid of everything that's been dropped. Levelling it up reduces the cooldown time and increases the chance of it not destroying dropped items.

It destroys enemies but doesn't destroy items, instead it generates more experience gems and sucks them all in to you.

Evolved Pentagram (with Crown buff) is Beautiful Moon, it has a faster cooldown than Pentagram and doesn't destroy items - it also increases the XP value of the XP orb-thingys AND gathers them all up. Best combined with Magic Wand and Empty Tome - it can be further improved with arcana to the point where it's almost constantly activating.

In other news I can consistently break the game with Song Of Mana and Blood Astronomia - it seems to generate effects that don't de-spawn. Which is a shame.

I binned off the Pentagram after my first use of it when I noticed it also wiped any XP crystals on the screen too, didn't seem worth it. Seems like it's worth it when evolved though.

Every item is decent when evolved, even the shitty water thing.

It's great in its own right, but whack up AOE and duration and it's incredibly OP.
