PostVC Games that dont support interlace mode.
by Lazy Fair » Sun Apr 05, 2009 10:44 pm

I recently looked back at the VC games I'd downloaded and looked at them on my HDTV. I noticed a few don't work in interlace mode (Sonic and Gunstar Heroes). Does anyone know if anything can be done to get them to work on my TV? Is there anywhere you can email or anything to complain? Surely it would be easy enough to patch these games to support interlace mode. Are there any other VC games that are similarly affected?

There is a button sequence I found that sorted it. It should be around on google (I didn't note it, sorry).

I downloaded sonic and GH the first day the Wii was released. I think the fact I deleted them and redownloaded them meant I downloaded an updated version supporting interlace mode. Either that or the new firmware has done something to help. Either way I'm happy.

This is strange because I used to play Sonic on my HDTV at home. I've since got a different TV, still HD, and tried playing sonic on it the other day but it didn't work. Maybe I'll try redownloading like you...

It isnt working anymore. Why dont they make sure all the games work over component? Sonic and Gunstar heroes were working the other day, but now they wont! Anything I can do about it?

Initially, some PAL Virtual Console games would not display correctly on high-definition televisions when connected via the component lead. However, starting with the April 13, 2007 update of the PAL Virtual Console, certain newly added games, such as Punch-Out!!, support the "Wii Component Cable Interlace mode." This is a temporary fix to problems with various Virtual Console games being played over component cable on HDTVs. The mode can be enabled by accessing the operations guide of the game, and (with the Nunchuk attached) pressing the buttons Z + A + 2 simultaneously. A sound is played if the mode is enabled correctly. Several older games also have updates available to enable the feature, such as Super Castlevania IV. The mode can be disabled by using the same method, but with the button combination Z + A + 1 instead.

That doesn't work with Sonic or Gunstar Heroes. That's what I meant at the start of the post, not all games support the interlace mode still. Can anyone else get Sonic or GH to work over component?

Just got my component cables today. Gunstar works fine, it plays in 576i.
