Arcade Mania is a great little book detailing the rise a fall of Japan's arcades, going into the machines themselves, the makers, and the players. Think it was written by a previous Edge writer iirc.

I've been lucky enough to pick-up a book that I pre-ordered back in July and, boy, it is totally ace. Let me share a few snippets of this glorious tome with you!

The Art of Fallout 4

The book makes a terrific first impression; it's weighty, has tremendous quality paper and printing, and a great cover. The cover image has a slight embossed effect that looks marvelous - I've tried to capture it in my opening two pictures:

The content is extensive and varied and the pictures are of excellent quality. There is little - hardly any - written detail but the layout of the lush images makes up for this. Cast your eyes over these example pages:

Overall, I feel that this is a real treat for fans of Fallout 4. I'm going to get a lot of enjoyment sitting down with a Nuka Cola and flicking through the pages.

I am a bit partial to the "Art of..." videogame books and, having played No Man's Sky for a few hours now, I *wish* there was an art book for it. Full-page pics on decent quality paper would be lush  .

Slaaaaaaaam! HSH cruises into the thread with a lovely collection of papery delights :toot: . I like the look of the Amiga Compendium; I'd love to get both that and the C64 version. I bet that Arcade Artwork tome is lovely, too.

I am intrigued by the book with the Space Invader on the cover... what is that one about, HSH?

That looks interesting, HSH - and unusual as it includes a vinyl soundtrack :o .

Do you have any other gaming books in your collection?

The Art of Mass Effect, a number (10 or so) of guides (including the infamous Bayonetta strategy guide) and a few that have come from SE/LE games.

EDIT - Also looking at buying the Gremlin Interactive book...

Ah, yes, Bayonetta... I was fortunate to pick that guide up at launch and it seems to be a bit of a rarity. That Gremlin book sounds excellent; I used to like the Gremlin Graphics adverts and game artwork. Let us know your verdict if you grab a copy!

Game Over is a great insight in to Nintendo through the the 80's and 90's. Also enjoyed The History of Japanese Game Developers, which gave some insight in to how companies back in the day used to run and how the actual offices were laid out. I believe there is a Book 2 now.
Really like the Bitmap Books series, specifically the C64 and Amiga compendiums.

We really should have a link to this, describing how the videogame industry started in the UK.

It's not a picture book, but just a great read of what went on behind the scenes.

Perhaps not technically 'books', but here's my collection of EDGE Special Editions, think I'm missing some of the early ones I once had.

You're a dark horse, HSH... this is a treat! I only have a couple of those editions - the big "E" (Top 100 games?) and the Retro Space Invader ones. I would like to see that Equip Xbox edition and also The Art of Videogames and The Art of the Pixel - neither which I was aware of.

At one time I had issues 1 to 25 of Edge but I sold them many years ago. Now I only have a few special editions alongside four-or-five versions of (I think) issue 100, when they produced multiple versions with each having a different cover / reverse based on a particular game.

All together your special editions make a lovely set, dude. Thanks for sharing it!

The Art of the Pixel is a current SE, available to order online if you want it...

I also have most of issues of EDGE, I've misplaced 49-58 somewhere which is annoying.

Thanks for the heads-up, HSH. I might try and see if my local WHSmiths has a copy so that I can take a look before buying it.

EDIT: Just realised I can look inside the book via that link :) .
