I've recently taken over the Internet connection in my new house and while activating my account, on my house mates computer, I thought I may as well install Virgin Media Security. Since doing so, the computer is behaving like it has a virus. I tried removing the program, but the list wouldn't populate, so I simply deleted it from the program list, this did nothing to help matters either. I seem to have a very small window, after start up, in which to take action before the computer freezes up entirely, even control, alt, delete doesn't bring up the task manager after this time has elapsed. I also tried removing Virgin related start up items, but the security package still searches for up dates after start up. I'm a bit stuck, is there anything I can do in the bios which will prevent the problem programs from running?

I have 3 days before she gets back from holiday to a borked computer.... :(

Nice one.

Put the OS install disk in and roll back to a recovery point.

Are you able to go into safe mode and remove the program?

That's what got you in this mess to begin with.

Go to the start menu and go to run. Then type in "msconfig"

Go to the "startup" tab

If you see anything relating to the virgin program there untick it to stop it loading at start up.

About all i can suggest off the top of my head.
