Virtual On has passed certification:
Xbox 360 version director Toru Maruyama notes, in the blog post, "The moment when I opened the mail, I was expectedly nervous, but when I saw the the glorious 'Pass' phrase in the mail body, I made a guts pose without knowing it. In fact, it was a strong guts pose."

Virtual On Dated for Live

SEGA's port of Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram for Xbox Live has had a firm release date slapped on its shiny derriere, with the arcade mech 'em-up coming out in Japan on April 29.

Weighing in at a slim 230MB, it's priced at a not-so-slim 1,200 Microsoft Points. The game should be worth it though – as our recent hands-on attested, this is a pitch perfect port of an arcade classic, with the added benefit of online play making it a tantalising proposition.

There's no details yet of a release outside of Japan, although we've approached SEGA for further information on when Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram could land in North America and Europe.

Even if the game turns out to be good and the joysticks turn out to be real there is no way I would be buying one of those things.

Virtual On XBLA Controller Problem Solved By Zealous Fan
Anonymous Japanese fan MacGyvers together solution with candy boxes, wire.

Looking forward to the upcoming Xbox Live Arcade release of Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram Ver.5.66, but distraught over the lack of a twin stick controller? Sure, there may have been murmurings about an official solution, but who knows if they'll ever come to fruition? Clearly, true VOOT fans will have to take matters into their own hands... and a brave, anonymous Japanese modder has demonstrated how it might be done.

There isn't much to it: An official 360 pad, a few generic arcade pushbuttons, some copper wire, a couple empty Choco Baby candy boxes. The solution may not be as swank as those of the past, but hey... whatever gets the job done.

Virtual On Director Working On New Xbox Live Arcade Game
New Xbox Live Arcade Earth Defense Force under consideration too!

Virtual On Oratorio Tangram is an Xbox Live Arcade exclusive for now. It looks like it could stay that way. That game's director, Sega's Toru Murayama, said today during a roundtable session at the CESA Developers Conference in Yokohama, "Oratan was well received, so we're making our next Xbox Live Arcade title."

There's no indication here that the new game is a new Virtual On, of course. But we're certain few would mind having another use for that pricey Hori Twin Sticks peripheral.

Murayama's comments came during a session titled Xbox 360 Online Business. A report at Gemaga skipped out on the main part of the session and jumped straight to that juicy bit.

Also in the Gemaga report was a comment from D3 Publisher's Nobuyuki Okajima. He offered two comments that Gemaga deemed interesting enough to take up its precious bandwidth.

First, on the recently released hostess simulator Dream Club, "We're currently developing -- or, rather, recording -- add-on content."

Okajima's second comment was of much greater relevance: "We'd like to bring the next Earth Defense Force to Xbox Live Arcade."

Looks like Microsoft's download platform will have no problem with major Japanese support.

Toru Murayama was also involved in the 360 only online component of Virtua Fighter 5 no? Considering both titles online nature, I imagine we'll see something very competitive / online centered. Personally hoping for Fighting Vipers 1 & 2 in one nice little package with online modes.

The original arcade/Saturn Virtual On was ported to the PS3, however due to lack of BC we have to pay again

It forever messes me up that this series doesn't drop the l on Virtual, doesn't feel right for a Sega franchise D:

Ace it's continuing to see re-releases in any case, loved the XBLA port. Hoping those come to PC!

All the Virtua games were developed by AM2 (Fighter, Racing, Cop)

Virtual On was developed by AM3, there was also Virtual Hydlide which was strawberry floating atrocious.
