PostViva Pinata Wii rumours resurface
by Christopher » Thu Aug 28, 2008 10:47 pm

Long standing rumours that Rare’s Viva Pinata is on its way to the Wii have resurfaced, after a listing for the game was spotted on the UK arm of online retailer Amazon.

According to this listing on the retailer’s website, Viva Pinata is due to be released on the Wii on 7 November, and is to be published by THQ – the same publisher handling the DS spin-off, Pocket Paradise.

No mention was made of whether it will be a straight port of the original or its forthcoming sequel, or a Wii specific game.

As with the previous rumours that have suggested that Pinata could be on its way to Wii, there is a certain amount of logic to it.

With Viva Pinata being aimed at the same ‘family’ audience that the Wii has proven so popular with, a version for Nintendo’s console would make sense – especially if the DS version does well.

Likewise, with THQ having published most of Rare’s non-Xbox stuff since Microsoft acquired the British studio, its mention as publisher makes sense as well.

That said, with not so much as whiff of an official announcement so far – strange, considering the alleged November release date – and the 360 Arcade competing for the same family audience as the Wii, we’d be very surprised if there was any truth in this.

Nevertheless, we’ll be making a few calls a little later, just to make sure. Cheers to Rob for the heads up.

It makes little sense why Microsoft would start putting it's games on rival consoles, unless they have made a deal with Nintendo that could finally see the likes of Goldeneye or some others come on 360, maybe well get Mario and Master Chief At The Olympics. Or maybe they are just desperate for Rare to start making them some money.

Microsoft have always said that they consider the Wii different enough to not be a rival console. That's why they tend to spend their time badmouthing the PS3 instead.

Long standing rumours? This the first I've heard of Pinanta appearing on the Wii. :?

A Viva Pinanta with the Wii Remote would be pretty good, it's what the Remote was made for.

I couldn't see it launching this year, not with VP2 coming so soon.

This.

It would be extremely strange to see a Wii version in the future but it wouldn't be the worst idea in the world. The Wii userbase would probably lap it up. I'd certainly buy it 8-)

It many ways it makes sense. It'd open the game up to a more receptive audience perhaps and really help them get more out of the IP.

Whats the point of doing a news story based on Amazon listings?
