So with all that's happening in the UK lately, I figured there'd probably be several people here interested in using a VPN service in order to maintain some level of privacy, including myself. There's a lot of different VPN services out there and even I'm somewhat overwhelmed with them in all honesty.
I've tried Private Internet Access but the speeds on it for me were pretty bad, but admittedly I only tried it with an OpenVPN config on my router, I never tried their locally installed client which may have been a bit of a mistake. I don't really think I could go back and try them again for a little while as I've already gotten a refund from them under their money back guarantee. Though I suppose I could always just sign up for a 1 month package as a sort of trial and just cancel the renewal if the client turns out to be rubbish.

Today though I've been trying out ExpressVPN and been a bit more thorough this time.,

For reference this is my normal internet connection,

If I plug the settings into my router directly for an OpenVPN connection, so basically my entire connection is on VPN even if the device doesn't support a VPN client, this was what I got when using their Amsterdam ovpn config,

So big big drop.

If I install the Windows client though and run that on the Amsterdam location, I get this,

Definitely better than the OpenVPN settings, but I was hoping for something a lot closer to my standard connection speed really.
Am I being unrealistic here? Is the above probably about the best I could really hope for when connecting using a VPN? I know 65 aint too bad but we're still talking a third of my regular speed. (Though my upload more than doubles because....reasons)

They'd probably be able to tell that from your ISP logs showing naff all of what you're doing online.

I'll be honest, I don't actually know what shows up at the ISPs end. I've only used Hide My Ass a couple of times.

What I find really sad is that it was only a few years ago that GRcade would have had a discussion on VPL. Now look at the state of us.

I can't use any VPN stuff from my Uni halls of residence. This is bullshit.

I think I might download a bunch of porn before it gets banned.

I am torn between not wanting Theresa May to look at everything I say, watch, and read, and not wanting to end up on the Big List Of People Who Use VPNs.

I'd end up on that list anyway since I have to use a VPN every time I work from home just to connect in to work. Might as well put my private browsing through one as well.

Seeing as you have to pay for VPN's, who's to say they aren't storing your details & selling stuff on?

I doubt you'll ever find a VPN provider that will give you 200mbps throughput with charging extortionate sums.

If you want to just use a VPN for web traffic, TunnelBear is awesome. I use it to access TPB etc.

I know I'm not going to get the full 200, just wanted more than 65.

I've been playing around with NordVPN (company is based in Panama) a bit more and gotten about 100 with them on some servers which is way better, so I may end up sticking with them.

Some of them actually let you pay with gift cards from other companies like Starbucks.
