VVVVVV Game - Now with browser-based demo!

This game is really, really excellent.

The pixel art is charming, but may be simplistic for some, the incredible chip-tunes are like audio cocaine, but may sound too retro for some.

But the tight, tough gameplay is relevant to all who like elegent, challenging gaming.

It is only about £3 on Steam, and i loved every second of it. It's something like braid or portal in that it takes a narrow set of rules and completely exploites them in unimaginable ways, in situations that never repeat. The confidence with which it throws new scenarios at the player, then discards them casually, is almost Mario Galaxy-esque.

Anyone else played this gem?

Here's a tune to persuade you to:

For that price, I might have to bite.

Demo is pretty awesome (music more than gameplay), but seems awfully tricky.

It loses some kudos for somehow losing my complete-with-trinkets save file :x

Amazing game though  I'm always fascinated by games that wring everything they can out of one gameplay mechanic, and this does it wonderfully. And the soundtrack is pure concentrated goosebumps.

...but I'm not quite sure what you're attempting there :P

Talking of getting all the trinkets, how hard is that Veni Vidi Vici segment?

When i first saw it i laughed in disbelief at what it was asking me to do. When that platform at the top crumbled i laughed again, but out of fear.

Completing it felt so, so good.

Yeah this game is good fun. Well worth the asking price too.

Um, you should be able to do it pretty much every time if you did it once, unless you totally fluked it. It's all muscle memory.

8-)

I loved the demo of this and it's top of my list of games to buy on Steam as soon as I sort my computer out so that Steam doesn't keep strawberry floating it up.

I also downloaded Mighty Jill Off as well the other week after unlocking her in Super Meat Boy, fun little game and it's free so everyone should give it a go.

It's a travesty that this thread has lay barren for nearly five years.

I loved it on 3DS and now it's out for PS4.

+ Addictive gameplay
+ Terrific feel
+ Fantastic soundtrack
+ Simple but challenging
+ Captain Viridian
- The PS4 port is bare-bones; it's still in 4:3... but it's still ace. Of course.

In fact...

I haven't played the 3DS version for a few years and I'm surprised at how much I've forgotton about the game. Normally I'd get frustrated by the "constant deaths", but in this game it just seems to drive me on. I've just completed The Tower level and rescued Vermillion, so I have some "two-player" levels to get through now. They're great, although I've just got to a really tough bit that I've died on quite a few times, so that's it for tonight.

Such a cool game. As I mentioned before, this PS4 version seems to be the most basic of ports... but when it remains this much fun I don't really mind.

I've got to Veni, Vidi, Vici.

And, yes, I am raging. I've done it before on 3DS and I now recall the whole painful, miserable process. It's insane.

I'll leave it for a while because my DualShock is in danger.
