Made a (not very good) joke. Which of course is unacceptable due to the death in question being to do with football.

Or because a lot of people are actually seriously affected by this shocking and devastating news.

:?:

While a sudden death is obviously very sad, I fail to understand how a lot of people can by seriously affected by this. Especially if it turned out to be natural causes.

I saw him play many, many times. He was just one of those players that everyone liked. He was a good honest pro that seemed to have been around forever, at least since I have been around. It's sad when someone you admired dies.

It's looking more and more like suicide, sadly.

It's not really a huge leap to see that people are empathetic towards a situation like this; perhaps people who have had to go through a suicide in their own family and the speculation brings back their own memories. Maybe people who are Welsh and support the national team and are upset that a potentially great manager has died. Possibly supporters of Everton, Bolton, Newcastle, Sheffield United or Leeds who liked him as a player and are sad that he's died? There are lots of reasons to be affected by the death of a famous person.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/ne ... at-42.html

WALES manager Gary Speed has been found dead at home after apparently hanging himself.

Police were called to the 42-year-old's home in Chester this morning and said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

He committed suicide.

Unconfirmed. It's what the Welsh FA currently thinks, but for all I know it could have turned out to have been a heart attack, especially considering he was on Football Focus yesterday.

Jesus this is sad news. RIP :(
I haven't seen any of the British press for months so I don't know if there was anything to suggest why this might have happened.
Great player.

It's either going to be suicide or some form of "accident" (you know the one). Either way it's completely tragic, why can't people be affected by it?

I retract my previous post, since the Telegraph is being explicit about it. Since that's two relatively reliable sources saying the same thing, I'll conclude that it was probably suicide. RIP in peace.

I do sort of agreee but whatever way you odds it sure is news that is a real shock. The guy was only 42, seemingly financially secure, with a great job in which he was excelling and with what appears to be a stable and happy family life. If he was suffering from a mental illness as appears to be being suggested it just goes to show how serious the situation can become and how sad it is how easily some people readily dismiss mental illness.

Sad news.

I love how a joke about someones death even though I said how seriously horrible it was in the same post is bad. It really is just because it was to do with football isn't it. :fp:
