The way Mark Lawrenson tried to stress Speed as 'normal' seemed very weird there. :?

He was high profile and married.

Also there is only ONE gay person in the world of football.

If that's honestly what it turns out to be then I hope that the Sun goes under for good. It's like being back twenty years ago all over again:

Really awful news. Shame he obviously didn't feel he could seek help.

I think tomorrow's i newspaper have really misjudged the mood by putting this in a tiny box out on their front page.

Everyone knew who Amy Winehouse was though, so it was 'bigger' news.

Most people who don't follow football won't have a clue who Gary Speed is. There were a lot of comments on my FB feed saying "who?" in response to RIP comments.

Not saying it doesn't warrant a full-page spread, but it's not as 'big' as some people's deaths (I realise that sounds quite heartless).

Come on now, clearly a LOT more people know how Winehouse is compared to Speed

That's true sadly, Speed deserves much better for the career he's had.

Lawro acting a little odd on MoTD about this. Really trying to make a point about how "normal" Speed was. Perhaps the rumours are true afterall. Let this be the end of The Sun.

Considering the circumstances and just how out of the blue this was I'd say that was understandable.

If that is true about The Sun then I want to see some serious reform in the laws governing the tabloid press.

Mainly for Leeds fans (made a week ago). Some great goals and great players involved.

Very tragic news.

I used to watch the footy highlights and see Speedo doing what he does best for Newcastle.

RIP.
