How so? A couple of million is nothing. I'd say they've done very well to make what it appears they have for that amount.
Yeah on their original budget they were making a very small game, because it was so successful they've managed to produce what is basically a AAA point and click adventure game.
The amount of work that goes into a game like this is probably not obvious to most people, having watched the excellent documentaries on the game it gives you a whole new perspective on the challenges developers face.
On top of that...what you might also ask yourself is why does it matter what the budget for the game was? The majority of the backers getting the game have spent either a little under £10 or £20 for their copies of this game. Surely what you'd normally be asking is does the game justify a £10-£20 price tag. Obviously we don't yet know how good the game is, but I don't think you'll get much argument from the backers on that front.
Oh yeah and as for 'buying sight unseen', you've got to be joking. A Tim Schafer point and click adventure title is all you ever needed to know, its like saying you wouldn't back a Miyamoto platformer without seeing it.
