Re: HALIFAX ULTIMATE REWARD CURRENT ACCOUNT

DON'T sign up for this - it's a complete con, they steal £12.50 from your account each month without your signature to do so, not as a direct debit or standing order which you could cancel.
They CLAIM to give you benefits - I've tried to cancel the account and written many, many complaints and have now reached the stage where I have to refer everything to the ombudsman and to be honest - I can't be bothered.

I've been with the Halifax nearly 30 years and now I'm moving to Barclays - the Halifax is dishonest and I can prove it.

DON'T ACCEPT AN UPGRADE TO YOUR CURRENT ACCOUNT OR YOU'LL REGRET IT - AS I HAVE

What a load of bullshit. Is this another gooseberry fool spambot?

I have an ultimate reward current account and they don't "steal" £12.50 from you each month - and by the way, you did give them permission to take that payment when you signed up for the account. Did you actually read up on what that £12.50 goes towards? eg. mobile phone insurance up to £500, as well as RAC breakdown cover, home emergency cover and travel accident cover etc.

Utter, utter mong. You might want to properly read the small-print and terms & conditions before you sign up for a bank account in future. One of the worst posts I've seen on this forum.

I was wondering how he missed the charge for the Ultimate Reward account

Still though, Halifax are banana splits for the new overdraft charges.

They talk you through the charge and benefits when you sign up for it, and you also get a massive welcome pack that details all the stuff as well  :fp:

I still refuse to believe this isn't a spambot of sorts.

Thanks guys for your support.

THE HALIFAX DID NOT TALK ME THROUGH ANYTHING - NO-ONE HAS SPOKEN TO ME ABOUT THIS ULTIMATE REWARD ACCOUNT- EVER.
THERE WAS NO MENTION OF A £12.50 MONTHLY FEE IN THE ORIGINAL MESSAGE TO 'UPGRADE MY ACCOUNT'. AND THE HALIFAX HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO PRODUCE THE E-MAIL THAT STATED THIS. BECAUSE THERE WASN'T ONE.

LET'S LOOK AT THE 'REWARD BENEFITS' -
1) Travel Insurance - I'm agoraphobic - where the hell is an agoraphobic going to travel to jerk?
2) Mobile phone insurance - I don't have one, I don't leave the house and have a landline. Derrrr
3) Roadside Recovery service - Even before I was diagnosed with agoraphobia, I've been a member of the A.A. for
25 years with full, comprehensive cover for all breakdowns.

WELCOME PACK? - NEVER RECEIVED ONE
HOW CAN A BANK OR BUILDING SOCIETY TAKE MONEY FROM AN ACCOUNT WITHOUT YOUR WRITTEN SIGNATURE? HALIFAX DO THIS WITHOUT USING A DIRECT DEBIT OR STANDING ORDER, SO IF YOU TRY TO CANCEL IT, YOU CAN'T.

I HAVE A 2:1 HONOURS DEGREE IN ENGLISH AND SEMANTICS, PLUS A MASTERS DEGREE IN CHILD EDUCATION - I'M NOT THICK! I CAN READ!

AND I STILL SAY TO ANYONE READING THIS - DON'T TRUST THE HALIFAX, BARCLAYS IS THE ONLY BANK NOT BEING BAILED OUT, OR NOW PART-OWNED BY THE GOVERNMENT.

THIS IS A WARNING - TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT - I DON'T GIVE A STUFF. JUST DON'T GET CAUGHT AS I WAS.

I stick with them just for this but they shut the local agency so I feel a move may be on the cards soon.

Sorry folks, I'm new to this.

What's 'spambot' and 'alt' then?

And I'm not a bloke but a female, natural blonde, blue-eyed, 35 year old school teacher. Just severely pi**ed off with the Halifax.

And married, but celibate.

HSBC aren't being bailed out are they?

Aaaanyways, Halifax are both gooseberry fool and alright.

A few months ago I accidentally wrote a cheque for an old account which I thought had been closed (I thought it was the cheque book from a different account), there was no money in the account and it was the one I had as a kid so there was no overdraft or anything, the cheque bounced and they charged me £35 for that and £28 for going into an unarranged overdraft, I phoned and explained my mistake and asked if I could close the account and they said I couldn't until I cleared the debt.

Fast forward 3 months and unbeknownst to me I've accrued three more £28 charges and there are another two "pending" which cannot be stopped. :x

I phoned and spoke to about half a dozen different people who all said that there was nothing I could do - I'd have to pay.

I wrote an epic letter, which was about three and a half thousand words detailing every single problem I've ever had with Halifax, about a week later a customer service manager phoned me to say they've waived all the charges, closed the account and credited my other account with £50 by means of an apology.

Hooray! \o/
