The other day, I was watching a DVD on my XBox360. Every few minutes or so (I had the impression it was irregular) the signal from the machine to my TV would be lost for just a moment (resulting in a black screen) and then it would return. It was very annoying.

I don't know whether this is relevant but I have it set to a 720p resolution and it's connected to the TV using a component lead (via an ampifier). I never had this happening while playing games on that 360.

Is this a known issue? Has anybody else had this happen?

Try connecting the 360 direct to the TV and let us know how you got on.

Taking the amp out of the equation, helps track down what it could be!

Thanks! That does seem like a good place to start.

I was hoping this was a well known issue with an equally well known solution... Well known apart form me, that is.
