That probably isn't good news for F1 TBH.

It will probably have no effect if Red Bull are at least pushed by someone in the championship this year. If the rumour is true and Mercedes and Mclaren are reasonably close to Red Bull then Ferrari possibly being off the pace won't bother too many people. Even in terms of the middle eastern expansion I can't see an off form Ferrari having too much of an effect.

F1 tends to be cyclical in terms of form. Ferrari appear to be in the decline after a really long period at the front.

I have HD. Previously I had Sky, but recently went to Sky+ HD. Had to pay increased subs fee but got the box for free.

If Ferrari have too many bad years, and drop out of the top 3 it would have an impact - they have a lot of fans and Ferrarri is a big draw to the sport. Without a successful Ferrari I think interest and revenue would fall. If Ferrari pulled out of F1 altogether (like other manufacturers have done when results fail to match investment) F1 would probably become a shadow of its former self.

To be honest, I don't think Ferrari being a mid-field runner would harm F1. The golden era is often seen as the mid to late 80s when Ferrari were nowhere near the force they are now/were. Since then F1 has become much more commercial so the impact the resurgent Ferrari years has had is unknown. Personally I believe if the sport remained exciting then an uncompetitive Ferrari would have minimal impact. Outside of Italy, F1 fans tend to be fans of exciting racing rather than fans of particular teams. I think the viewing figures in general have continued to increase over the last few years even as Ferrari's form dropped.

Ferrari leaving the sport is a whole other consideration. If Ferrari alone went then I think you would see a small, but recognisable drop of interest/investment which would be recoverable. If Ferrari and a few other teams left then you would be into Indycar/Cart territory where nobody will come out of it unscathed.

:o Amazing!

I'm going to mention this to my housemates tonight. We are in the same situation (Sky Sports without HD).

What are the terms of the deal? £10/month extra and no 12 month commitment?

And you have to say that Kimi Raikkonen is rubbish. Those are the terms.

Sky Sports F1 has appeared on Sky Go, so those of you who have an Xbox 360 and a subscription (of your own, or someone else's ;)) can watch it.

Barcelona/Valencia to alternate from 2013

http://www.planetf1.com/driver/18227/75 ... -alternate

Should just get rid of Valencia. And there's still talk of the French and Belgians alternating a grand prix. No Spa every year?!?!

Great news about Barcelona being used less. It's by far one of the worst tracks and Valencia is far better, both as a spectacle and for the racing. The next move should be to get rid of Hungary completely.

they tend to follow drivers too.

at spain last year the place was a flow with ferrari fans because of Alonso, i sat next to a merc fan, a romanian dude with a super hot girlfriend and her friend tbh too, and he was wearing a merc T-shirt simply because he was a
schumacher fan.

you get the same in britain too for button and hamilton, i can see Di Resta becoming a british favourite in the near future.

Some parts of the Sky coverage are great, but their constant references to football get right on my nerves, asking every mechanic which team they support. I don't care and I like football and have all the sports channels! Next up Webbo tells non subscribers to buy Sky Sports.....I mean how he supports Man Utd. :x

That sounds unbelievably annoying.

I don't want to hear about football if I'm watching Formula 1. :x

So as a Virgin Media subscriber I have to start paying extra for the other Sky Sports channels if I want to watch the dedicated F1 channel?

Yeah by the looks of it you need the Sky Sports collection, which is all 4 sky sports channels to even get the F1 channel. So that's an extra £22.50 a month. And even then I don't think you get it in HD. Such a joke when originally I swear I read Sky said it would be given to virgin media customers that had any sky sports package.
