I noticed one bookies having Alonso as second fav for the championship! He's not worth that position, but the 6/1 at the moment seems reasonable if still a tad short.

I really have no idea what's going to happen, just hope there's a reasonably full field. Someone needs to help Honda out for sure.

But in the last 8 races of the season he scored the most points. Surely if Renault continue improving like they did at the end of the season they have a good chance of being regularly up in the top three.

You can't really read that much into the latter half of the season though. Button outscored Schumacher and Alonso in the latter half of 2006 from what I remember and that led to predictions of Honda doing well in 2007 which we all know didn't happen.

Having said that Renault are perhaps the best value for money team in F1 and with the talent they have, they have all the reason to be optimistic next season.

So what do people think of Lewis getting an MBE then? Even as a Lewis supporter I have to say I don't think he deserves it. After a couple of titles maybe, but not just the one. I suppose you could make a case for Hoy getting Knighted but I can't say I'm a fan of sports personalities getting these awards unless they have done some serious charity work or donated a lot of their winnings or something.

I'm worried for Ferrari this year. In the past, whenever there has been big regulation changes, Ferrari have always been the worst of the big teams to adjust. With their admission that they have fallen behind with the KERS I wonder if they are trying to soften the blow.

EDIT: Ferrari are goin back to the traffic lights system next year:

I can see another massive pit cock up happening.

It's most definitely that it will happen again this year.

Ferrari F2009 to debut next week

Massa on track at Fiorano on Monday

Ferrari has announced that its 2009 contender, the F2009, will hit the track next Monday.

The unveiling of the new Ferrari is scheduled to take place at the Italian team's Maranello headquarters, with Felipe Massa to debut the car later the same day at Fiorano.

Ferrari clarified that the car will not yet be in its race-legal 2009 specification.

The Italian squad will therefore become the first team to run its 2009 contender in anger, albeit in interim form.

Sandbagging? Are they behind with the race 2009 specification? :shifty:

Anyway, speaking of Lewis Hamilton getting an MBE. I feel it's too early for him to earn that precious award and he's still a way too young. I agreed with the comment from Red Dog that the award should be given to the people who worked so hard and long time what they've achieved in the past.

In a few years time, I guess we may see "Sir Lewis Hamilton", eh? :fp:

The person who should get that kind of the award is... Michael Schumacher. Couldn't he get one for himself cos he's from Germany? From what I heard, he usually donates some amount of money to the charities for the kids and supports them.

Agree with you there BOR, Schumacher has donated millions to charity. I remember he donated more during the Tsunami appeal than the entire Man Utd team. Definitely deserves some kind of recognition.

Anybody read James Allen's latest blogs:

http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/f1diary.htm

He talks about the Donington project, and says that he is convinced that Alonso is off to Ferrari next year. As a Ferrari fan, I don't want to see Alonso go there. I felt he seriously disrespected the team in 2006 with his negative comments towards them. He is a great driver, but I'd prefer to see him at Renault.

Indeed bad and good news all in one. Still, I'd give up HD for the proper F1 feed they get in Germany where they can use a service similar to the red button to change cameras but I guess that will never happen. Wish we had HD too but I guess Bernie wants extra cash for that.

Apparently the results of a mass survey of F1 fans will be complete in the next few days with regards to improving the show (in other words, ruining it).

http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/n ... 4025.shtml

Call me a sceptical conspiracy theorist, but I consider myself a hardcore fan and I haven't seen the slightest wiff of a survey or heard anything about one being taken. Is it just me, or are Max and Bernie trying to pull another fast one regardless of the fanbase opinion?

Why are they considering changing qualifying again, for example? I haven't heard any complaints over the current system apart from the fuel burn phase which is easily sorted.

Yeah qualifying is fine at the moment, once they ban refuelling during the race the current format may get more interesting as the final 10 won't be down to their respective fuel loads.
Me and my friend are considering going to the British Grand Prix this year, anyone else been and got any tips about tickets etc?

Well it doesn't look as radical as all the experts were predicting last year. Just slightly different wings, nothing ugly at all.

Slicks look absolutely superb though. 8-)

Ninja, I had a look into tickets and the prices are obscene this year! However, the best place to go is the final complex of corners as it bends near the pit entrance. I think the stand is Luffield B. Basically you will get to see the cars for the longest period of time as they go through the stadium complex.

If you want the best atmosphere then the start finish line is the place to be. You get to see the spectical of the start and finish (naturally) the podium ceremony and all the pitstops. You also get to see the pitboards which really helps follow the race.

For sheer spectical, the first corner is a good place to sit as you get to see the cars take the first turn pretty much flat out. Only downside being they go whizzing by and you won't see them for long!

If you want a cheaper roaming ticket then there are all kinds of little hills to stand on, but you have to get in early to get a spot, and take a deck chair!

Looks very nice, but I think I need to get use to it though! :?

I'm glad they didn't go for the shark-fin wing, like they did it a few times last year. I'm also sure they will modify something new onto the cars during the season to get the best out of the car.

The Marlboro barcode thing looks stupid. I was hoping they'd ditch that.

Ferrari unveil its 2009 challenger

Forget the F2009, this is the F60!

Defending champions Ferrari this morning unveiled its 2009 challenger to the media ahead of a scheduled test later today at Mugello.

Ditching the recent numbering system, the new 2009 Ferrari has been dubbed the F60, the 60th year of Formula One competition for the team, and was shortly afterwards shaken down by Felipe Massa at the team’s test track.

The car, initially dubbed the 660 during the design process, conforms to the 2009 regulations and features numerous innovations.

"The choice is very simple," explained team boss Stefano Domenicali with reference to the designated name for the new car. "We wanted a way to recognise the fact that the history... that Ferrari has always been connected in the presence of Formula One. So this is the 60th championship of the F1 and this is the 60th time that Ferrari is here in Formula One."

"So that is the history and hopefully that will be future together with Ferrari in Formula One," he added.

As far as aerodynamics are concerned the modifications are a result of the Overtaking Working Group set up by the FIA in collaboration with the teams to produce a set of rules aimed at encouraging more overtaking.

The front wing, which has a neutral profile common to all, is developed mainly on its side elements and is much wider than in the past.

The bodywork can no longer carry the slotted apertures that were so common in recent times while other aerodynamic devices are significantly reduced.

The rear wing is higher and narrower than in the past; the diffuser has been moved rearward.

The combination of changes led the initial design phase down a radically different route when it came to the sidepods and protection components. The apertures have been reduced in size and moved rearwards while the upper and rear elements are larger to aid the exit of the air.

The new rules regarding aerodynamics have also led to modifications to the suspension and the whole layout of the car has been redesigned in light of the new rules and to achieve a balanced weight distribution.

The design also takes into account two other significant changes to the regulations namely the option to use Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems and the re-introduction of slick tyres to the past.

KERS on the F60 has been designed by Magneti Marelli and is centrally mounted on the engine under the rear part of the chassis. The slick tyre rules is also down to the work of the OWG, as is the introduction of a flap on the front wing that can be adjusted by the driver when the car is in motion. The software for managing this tool, as well as KERS, was designed in Maranello.

Ferrari run the new F60

Massa happy with the new look and feel

Ferrari on Monday became the first team to reveal its 2009 car.

The 'F60', named in celebration of the fact the Italian marque is the only to have contested all sixty seasons in the sport's history, was launched with a low-key event at Ferrari's Maranello headquarters.

Explaining the name, team boss Stefano Domenicali said: "It was our desire to combine the history of F1 and the fact that Ferrari has always been present."

The car was originally scheduled to be track debuted at nearby Fiorano, but Felipe Massa instead took to the cockpit of the F60 for the first time at Ferrari's other circuit, Mugello.

Massa said he was pleasantly surprised about the appearance of the F60.

"With all the new regulations I was expecting something else, like ten years ago with huge wings, but I was surprised."

"I find the new F60 to be nice, small like a F3 car but nice looking," the Brazilian said.

Following an initial shakedown lap, the new car was back on track with Massa at the wheel and is 'happy and excited to take the Ferrari out for its first ride.'
