To me the reason why these cartoons still hold up and we laugh today because some of their content is so adult. Take Johnny Bravo, the whole idea of the show is for Johnny to pick up chicks. Tha's the show, he's a sexist muscle bound idiot who always fails at picking up. Some might say you could learn alot from Johnny B

Like, you would never see a Ren & Stimpy on BBC1 in the afternoon anymore. It's some tame ass weak gooseberry fool that is out and about today

It feels odd comparing stuff from yesterday to modern day stuff when i don't properly watch any of the stuff that's on CN and Nick these days, but some of the cartoons and shows in general back in the 90's were just pure awesome. Doug, Johnny Bravo, Kenan and Kel, Dexter's Lab, Hey Arnold, Powerpuff Girls, proper Rugrats and as Floex said - on top of that we had stuff like Saved by the Bell (during the early days) and Fresh Prince of Bel Air  I'd forgotten just how many TV shows i liked back in the day

I don't know, maybe it's a case of these days they know kids are more likely to spend their time on the internet or games consoles after school, so they don't put as much effort into the kids shows as they used to or maybe the stuff on thesedays is a lot better than we think but because we're all older now we've just grown out of those sorts of programs.

There's actually another episode which is even better.

Scooby says something and he goes "Wait a second. Are you telling me you people actually understand what that dog is saying?"

And he falls in love with Velma.

In that episode you posted, it's the look he's giving Scooby when he's talking that gets me.

Edit: I'd almost forgotten how brilliant this show is...

If you count Adult Swim which as far as I am aware is part of the Cartoon Network then you can also add The Venture Bros, Robot Chicken and Harvey Birdman among others to modern Cartoon Network output. So I really don't see a problem with modern Cartoon Network, sure those old shows were good, but like any network shows change.

I think there is some truth to that. As far as I can remember, if I wasn't out and about on my bike, I would be watching TV and playing video games. I guess there is so much more you can do on the internet that TV just isn't as important as it once was in regards to children's TV. It still plays a big part of their lives, don't get me wrong but I just don't see the wacky programming that was prevalent in the early 90's

Tha's more to do with Cartoon Network, I certainly wouldn't class them as kid's programs

Kids TV has been going downhill since the mid 80's.

I think the 90s and early 2000s had some of the best cartoons, but there was probably plenty of gooseberry fool around as well.

A good recent cartoon is regular show, loads of 80s references.

Johnny Bravo was incredible. As were so many of the shows during the 90s.

True story the TV Dexter is the follow up to Dexter's Lab. That little ginger kid that worked in his lab never connecting with people? Became that ginger man, Dexter Morgan, working in his lab and finding it hard to connect with people.

His sister "Dee Dee" dyed her hair brown and became a cop. Now uses her proper name; Debra. OMG totes real.

Not CN nor Nickelodeon, but who cares. How they got away with this, I'll never know.
