This is the problem, though. Common usage. As soon as it stops being common usage, it's no longer true, right?

Well, it's trivial to construct a society that values the bravery and cunning in winning riches from other people, and all of a sudden the common usage has changed. Funnily enough, this is actually how societies used to work before the state invented the concept of property rights.

For theft to be a thing, you have to have the right to the thing being thieved in the first place. Now, from where do you get those rights?

I own my house. I pay for the maintenance, security and operation of my house.

Frank starts living in my spare room and using it as his base from which he lives his life.

Is it immoral that I either ask Frank to leave or to contribute to running the house that he is choosing to live in?

I have to say even though he's bowed out now I do admire Regg's stamina for almost single-handedly fighting this argument for 12 pages.

Yeah, totally. It takes immense strength of character to stick with an argument when everyone else disagrees with you.

Proposition: We begin a new thread series called "Forumite Lockdown" or something along those lines, where two members with opposing views on a subject are locked into the thread and must come to an agreement on the relevant issue before being allowed to leave. Nobody but them can post in the topic, but everyone else can spectate. Sort of like an intellectual gladiator fight.

It'd probably be a disaster, though.

I'd have called it "Cock Fighting".

Did anyone ever see those Legal Name billboards a few years ago? Been doing in and out of this thread since Friday but it seems this is similar to the argument here.

Well that sounds like load of bollocks.

Amusement under late capitalism is the prolongation of work.
