To be totally honest, I find conversing with people exhausting. I am a natural introvert and therefore I don't have a problem with silence. I don't like small talk and find it slightly irritating when people like Ad7 (no disrespect) can't just let conversation lie as often this can turn into rambling about something I either don't care about or don't want to listen to. I am extremely fortunate because my team at work is packed with these sort of people, so I get lots and lots of practice in dealing with them.

Mercifully the Turkish barbers I go to for my beard trimming and a hot towel shave of the dome don't like to chat too much. A brief football conversation and then on with the shave.

Things are different when I’m drunk.

Thing is, quite often I'm on a roll and everyone is laughing (with me most of the time), and it only encourages me, but then I take it too far and generate a verbal tumbleweed.

Generally I'd be quiet then just wanted to get out of said room / place, I don't like quiet but I don't know how to start conversations

It's same thing online, in group chats I'll chat a lot but one on one I just struggle so much

I get horribly anxious in just about all social situations and my brain's response to that is to go completely blank, so I tend to go silent. I like it when people ramble and fill the silence because there's less pressure to think of words when I can just nod and smile.

I tend to do the helicopter dick in social situations.

I just avoid all social situations, so the issue never arises. 8-)

I generally don't mind when you get a quiet spell in a conversation. Mainly as I'm normally a pretty quiet chap anyway, not quite as much now as I was a few years back mind (where I would barely utter a word to people I didn't know), even people I've known for years seem to realise this is how I am so they don't normally force the conversation if it goes quiet, normally it's pretty normal though.

I'm still terrible with my nerves though and generally overthinking far too much so I suppose if it was an awkward situation with someone I really didn't know at all or that well I'd probably just shut up and chime in when I had something to add.
