Carrying on over from the PS Store chat topic, a few of us we moaning about Twisted Metal which turn lead to this.

DONT SAY THAT, THEY HAVE EARS AND EYES EVERYWHERE.

Oh, that would be awful. PS4 is in dire need of good exclusives, not more tripe like that.

For me Sony lacks the IP that Nintendo posses and to a lesser extent Microsoft. While they make up in originality they somewhat fall short of making classics in recent memory (of course there are exceptions).

What genres are missing from Sony's portfolio?

What genres of exclusives does the PS4 need?

I think we need voting options, though I guess I don't really get a say seeing as I'm too lazy to actually make the topic.

I'd go for 3rd Person Shooter by the way I think, unless anyone has any compelling reason why the PS4 needs something else.

A JRPG would be nice.

Announced PS4 exclusives:
Uncharted 4
Horizon Zero Dawn
Kill Strain
The Last Guardian
Ratchet and Clank
Rime
Everybody's Golf
Shadow of the Beast
The Tomorrow Children
Wattam
Aliennation
Fat Princess Adventures
Until Dawn
Dreams
Drawn to Death
Amplitude
WiLD

Already released:
Knack :dread:
Killzone Shadowfall
DriveClub
infamous Second Son
Resogun
Everybody's Gone to the Rapture
The Order 1886
Bloodborne

Not including PlayStation exclusives or console exclusives of course. I don't think it needs much as we're going to get Gran Turismo, we're bound to get a WipEout. There should be two first part games announced at TGS, at least one at PGW and then a few more at PSX.

When you have the all the multiplatform games there really isn't as big of a reliance on first party and that's fine by me as someone with a single platform.

You still need a quality diverse exclusive lineup to persuade people to buy your console over the opposition.

They are quite clearly missing a high action 3rd Person Shooter...that's actually any good.

Uncharted isn't really what I'm talking about as I'd class that as more of an action/adventure game than a shooter.

I guess you could also say they are missing a 3rd Person game in the vein of God of War, but 4 has to be coming at some point.

Biggest selling games are multiplatform titles, to the general public a first party title is a secondary game, they buy a console to play FIFA or COD or GTA and then maybe pick up a some exclusives. First party line ups are nowhere near as important as solid third party support.

A good third person shooter would be nice of course but if a good third party one appears everyone's a winner no?

Presumably a new Gran Turismo will be announced at some point, but other than that I can't really think of much. I guess a JRPG or other RPG would be good, but Final Fantasy is probably the most high-profile series and I can't see that going back to single platform, same with Tales, Dragon Quest, etc. Maybe Dark Cloud will be exclusive if/when it gets announced, but I don't think that's a big name particularly.

I don't agree with just about any of that.

Of course Fifa/CoD/GTA are what a lot of the general public want to play...but then so is Halo and lots of other games. I don't think the general public give two hoots about if a game is first or third party, that's just not something they care about.

What it comes down to is which consoles can play the games they want to play. When you've got both PS4 and Xbox One both having all the major 3rd Party games, people have to look at other things to make their choice and surely you can't argue that a major part of that choice has to come down to what games they can and can't play on the respective consoles. Exclusives are still a big deal in other words.

If a good 3rd Party multiplatform shooter comes out on PS4 and Xbox One, it doesn't make that game a reason to buy a PS4. Surely Sony's job is to give the general public as many reasons to buy their console over the others as possible, otherwise why bother with First Party exclusives at all.

That's what Horizon Zero Dawn is.

It's called marketing, get that right and people buy your products. First party matters in respect of giving gamers choice of more games to buy but they are not a driving factor in consumer choice.

Genuine question, would Uncharted 4 not count as a third person shooter? Especially the online component.

Technically, maybe.

I don't think its the focus of the game though. For me its an Action/Adventure game rather than a shooter.

Yeah, I'd generally agree with that. But the online component is definitely geared more towards the third person shooter genre.

Could someone please rap Suzz's knuckles for making WipEout release sound so plausible/straightforward, please?

I'm not convinced that Playstation 4 needs a 3rd person shooter as long as Uncharted exists, as a game like that is doing so much more than just the pew pew pewww. And good for it. If you want dumb mindless shooting, scoot back 5 years and play Army of Two or some other bollocks.

Those games weren't good though, no one said it had to be mindless either.

Just because a game focus's on shooting over traversal or exploration say, doesn't mean its Army of Two. Games like Dark Souls and Bloodborne obviously have a focus on combat, but no one is saying they are mindless games.

Do people care about Uncharted multiplayer? In the way they do about even Gears? I'm not sure about that.

No idea. I remember the online for 2 having a good crowd and after The Last of Us I would expect great things from 4's online. However I doubt it's a killer feature like Gears'.
