PostWhat is the longest marriage you personally know of?

My grandparents are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary next month. That led to the discussion of how rare that is; most people these days get married pretty late in life, and/or they just break up after a few years.

So are we correct in thinking it is rare? What is the longest marriage you know of? Any other details, if they still are happy etc, would be much appreciated.

My dads parents were together for about 55/56 years until my granddad died in 84/85, they seemed happy, other than that I have never really taken any notice of how long people were/ are married.

I'm pretty sure my grandparents celebrated their diamond anniversary (60 years) at least, maybe 65. It was around that for sure.

My parents will be celebrating their 35th in a few weeks.

I've only got one grandparent 'left' and I'm not really sure how long they were married. One grandparent on either side of the family died when I was pretty young. My parents have been married 22 years this year, together for over 30.

My parents, about 53 years. I arranged a surprise party for them on their 40th and a cruise for their 50th. Sadly my dad passed away at the end of 2009. They seemed happy.

If was my 20th anniversary this year, bought the wife a platinum & diamond ring.

My nan was about 35 years till my grandad died. My parents are running at about 32. Not bad but the last couple of years have been gooseberry fool.

My parents had their 31st wedding anniversary this week, my grandparents have probably been married 60 years or something.

My grandparents had their golden wedding anniversary about 7 or 8 years ago, so that one.

My grandparents have been married for 50-odd years, and still going strong.

My Nan was married to my Grandad for about 55 years (I think) when he sadly passed away in 2007. :(

Guess it isn't too unusual. I bet in a few decades it will be though, once our parents die off.

My Aunt and Uncle are at around 30 years now. There was a Grandparent death on either side before I was born and my parents and my Dad's sister have both divorced at less than 15 years married. Things going well for them now, though.

My nan and grandad celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary a few years ago, so they must have got to at least 73 years before grandad died last month. Crazy to think you're doing well to even live that long these days, let alone be married that long.
