Hmm, you may be right. All I remember is the first corridor I walked down, hearing all these odd sounds. Then something jumped at my face. And I screamed...

Kinda the same but in MGS2 I was all :o at running about the boat in middle of a storm and then I switched to Raidan on the floating orangy brown piece of gooseberry fool. 2hrs later and I said strawberry float this gooseberry fool!

Numerous game demo's have made me reach for the X button within minutes:
Duke Nukem Forever
Bastion :shifty:
All card based games on Live.
Golden Axe :fp:

Having difficulty pushing through horror games is often a sign that the player has the sort of superior imagination required to make their avatar a projection of themselves.

It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with how easily they scare.

Way of the Samurai 3.

I really liked the first two games in the series and appreciated the open ended structure - you have three in-game days in a small slice of rural japan to interact with the three or so factions (usually two warring gangs and the caught-in-between villagers) and get one of the 10 to 20 odd endings.

However I just never found any kind of direction in the third game. The first game opens with your characters arrival in town and right away you encounter one of the villagers being harrassed by thugs from one of the oppresive gangs. You can walk on, intervene on the villagers behalf (win or lose) or join in with the gang. It's just a decent kicking off point and introduces you to the main players.

In WOTS3 your character collapses in the aftermath of some unknown battle and wakes up in a villagers house and they basically promptly tell you to GTFO and that they don't want any trouble. I get the feeling they're main characters but can't trigger any kind of plot development from them. Some crazy old woman mistakes you for her long lost son and some other villager wants help cutting vegetables - by fastballing them at your head so you can chop them out of the air, which is how I died on my first playthrough. Reading an FAQ I feel like I'm supposed to blindly stumble into these random encounters by being in the right area at the right time, whereas in the previous games I always had some kind of goal.

Recently, FEAR 3 and Homefront, the very definition of mediocrity. About an hour each.

I gave Assassin's Creed 1 a couple of hours, tops. Just awful.

Assassin's Creed 2, however, I adored.

I'm very fair, and give all my games a set amount of time to interest me, or else I leave them forever.

It's about 45 seconds, and as such, unskippable developer intro videos are kind of a dealbreaker.

I've got loads I've played for literally a minute or two to see if they work like Crysis 1 and 2, but I've not really gone back to them yet (I hope to one day eventhough the backlog is spiralling out of control!)

FF XIII. Bought it some time last year. It's still sealed.

But of the games I've actually started, probably Far Cry Instincts. The whole thing just played like a floppy mess, and I stopped after about 10 minutes. I've never felt any urge to go back.

Project Zero/Fatal Frame - I managed to last for around ten minutes before whimpering like a cowering dog and turning it off in terror.

I rarely give a game less than a few hours unless they're broken. I've even played further through games like Killzone just in case they pick up.

I guess it was some random basketball game on the N64 that I rented as a kid. I played it and just got pissed off with how boring it was and that there was nothing better to rent.

Wii Play. Gave it 15 minutes and actually threw it in the bin. The only game I've ever thrown away.

I barely gave it much longer than that. Thoroughly disappointed with this game. :(

Probably Fable II. I was sliding around having been asked to look for I don't even know what in some kind of game of hide and seek but with only the seeking bit. Then I was talking to some english people who said stuff. I just couldn't be bothered, at all. Sometimes I just like linear games because I know I'm not going to waste any time wandering around aimlessly. I don't have the patience for it. I gave it about 40 minutes.

Far Cry 2, one of the few games I've bought and never completed out of choice. Got strawberry floating fed up of the enemies constantly respawning at checkpoints.

Couldn't you just avoid them?
