Why the hell is nobody talking about this? I finished it 3 days ago and my gob is still smacked. Hard. This game should be leading the march of interactive entertainment from niche hobby into mainstream media, possibly even art. I don't think I've ever played (in 35 years of gaming - I only started when I was 6) a more clear-cut 10/10 than What Remains of Edith Finch.

Erm, discuss, I guess.

I kinda had an eye on on it, Johnny, but I didn't pick it up. I *loved* The Unfinished Swan, though, so I hope to grab this at some point.

What is it? Sounds like the kind of thing I want to go into with just a basic idea of what it is so I can avoid spoilers.

It's two and a half hours of beautiful tragedy. I was reluctant to spend sixteen quid on a punt, but now I feel embarrassed that it cost me so little.

I saw your write up on this in "last game...." and headed over to Steam to see similarly glowing reports. I am interested in this but will be waiting for a decent price drop.

Yes?

Same here, totally on my radar but I'm awaiting a price drop.

I'm more than willing to wait.

One of those "walking simulator" type games but one with more interaction than is usual in most of such games, it's also meant to be pretty inventive in how the story plays out.

Is this like The Vanishing of Ethan Carter ?

That game is lovely to look at but I just dont get on at all well with games that just leave you to get on with it, I'm very much a likes being helped along my way kind of a gamer as my attention to detail in games suck so unless it is made obvious I should do something or go somewhere I tend ot miss it, get stuck and drop out of the game.

I have no idea what this game is other than being put off by the pretentious name

And I really liked Everybody's Gone to the Rapture

(Unfinished Swan was interesting but it never caught my attention and I never finished it)

There's a Jim Sterling Jimpression video of the first area of the game. It's kinda spoilery but gives you a good idea of what to expect.

This is on my desktop waiting to go. I've read very little, but am hoping for a proper Everybody's Gone to the Rapture-like, with sob inducing story and lovely music.

It's actually VERY linear and doesn't really give you any options at any point during the game - it's telling a very tightly-defined story.

The name is literal - the game is a story about, er, Edith Finch and what remains of her!

Just finished this and it cements in my mind that the Walking Simulator is rapidly becoming one of my favourite genres.

It was great, very good indeed, although not on the level of something like Everybody's Gone to the Rapture or Gone Home. Although there are a few narrative throughlines, a lot of the stories have seemingly random morals and little going on beneath the surface (Barbara's for example, which I thought was one of the weaker ones). Still, it had me welling up by the end and at Lewis' sequence.

A solid 8/10

Really liked this - but didn't love it as much as (say) Gone Home - and did it in one sitting.

Beautiful world and storytelling - but it feels that you get most story elements on one play through. (Although I'm sure there's lots of details hidden in the world/art work, most of these seemed to flesh out the story you already knew, rather than adding new elements).

Didn't feel like it could maintain itself throughout. There's a clear difference in design quality between, say, Barbara's story (which while told in an inventive manner, seemed the weakest story) and Lewis' (which was also told in an inventive manner, and had a strong message to it)

I liked Gone Home where there's about 2-3 subplots (e.g. child abuse, parents issues/reconciliation) that you can completely miss.

Yeah. I stick with my 8/10 and am rather mystified by all the 10/10 and Game of the Year noms its been getting. It's great, and genuinely effecting, but I forgot about it pretty soon after.
