I'm talking about worldwide box office figures, not just in the UK or America.

Ooooh a difficult one!

It depends on the age rating of TDKR... If its rated 15, then I reckon Avengers will just edge it. I think Spiderman could end up in the last place but it will be very close.

Damn you, Gario!

My predictions:

1st: Avengers
2nd: Dark Knight
3rd: Spiderman

America will go crazy for The Dark Knight and it could probably do $600million there.

TDKR. I can see Spiderman being a comparative flop.

Better for the fans if it does so Sony abandons the property and the rights revert back to Marvel.

I'm amazed at the lack of buzz surrounding it. There's been one or two lacklustre trailers, some truly embarrassing merchandise reveals and those awful character posters. The whole thing just reeks of Sony clinging onto the rights with their fingertips.

Yeah the lack of hype around Amazing Spider-Man is odd, won't be surprised if it doesn't make as much money as Spider-Man 3. There didn't seem to be that much excitement at all when each trailer was released.

Just looking at the numbers The Avengers was doing, and to think some people were expecting this to almost bomb :fp: I think it'll end up making more money than TDKR since it has more mass appeal.

Almost certainly Avengers. Batman has just...well...batman. Avengers on the other hand has a bit more of a wider appeal due to the increased cast of characters and the backstory for each of them already established in previous films.

But The Dark Knight is extremely well-regarded around the world. Much more so than any of the comic-book films that tie in with The Avengers, like Iron Man and Thor.

Obviously Avengers, no competition. TDKR won't do as good as TDK, because I think alot of the "hype" around that was inflated due to the tradegy around Heath. I honestly don't think it would have done as good as it did if he hadn't died just before. Also TDKR has had a tiny bit of negativity surrounding Bane's voice and a certain new vehicle. Spidey I hope flops. Hard. Not because of the cast/director, I think it's far superior to the Raimi trilogy in that aspect, just that if it flops Marvel will hopefully get the rights back. Even if they've signed the entire cast up for a new trilogy. Don't even get me started on the Lizard.

TDKR will definitely win, but The Avengers will run it surprisingly close.

I know these things aren't quantifiable, but as far as I can see TDKR is the most anticipated movie in recent film history. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it knocks Avatar off the top of the workwide box office takings list.

Anecdotally, I was far more hyped for The Avengers than I am for TDKR despite Batman being my favourite superhero and BB my favourite superhero film.

People in my office thought that, when I mentioned I was going to see The Avengers, it was another remake of the 60s TV show. When I mentioned there was a new TDKR trailer out however they all went mental. When I clarified the topic of The Avengers they ridiculed me for going to see a "kids film."

Worth pointing out these people are all in their early 30s.

I'd say Prometheus is.

From personal experience I'd disagree. None of my friends are more than casually interested in cinema and they all know TDKR is coming out soon and are super excited. None of them knew Prometheus existed until I told them. In fact, at the cinema last week after the Prometheus trailer finished I heard a big group of people muttering about how gooseberry fool it looked.

You can't educate a banana split and all that, but I think the general public are on the side of TDKR.

(I am looking forward to Prometheus more btw)

Oh I'm not denying the hype for TDKR is huge, but I think it's a part to Heath's death. I still think TDK would have done really well, but the media coverage around the time certainly helped TDK break records and get people interested in Nolan's Batman trilogy.

Don't know about knocking Avatar off it's perch though, wasn't that massively helped by 3D ticket prices or does not factor into it?

Yeah, the 3D ticket prices boosted it quite a bit.
