I'd carry on working, I didn't become an archaeologist for the pay or conditions, which are terrible, but because I love digging and I love the Romans, and I'm lucky enough to have work that gives me both, so I'd just carry on like now. Maybe I'd have the ability to pick and choose jobs a bit more (e.g. say no to ten months exhuming bodies in Hull).

I'm not sure I would stay in work. All my jobs have sucked.

Grumpy David wrote:Is UBI generally discussed as being large enough to cover all bills (I'm assuming mortgage / rent too)?

I always thought the amount typically discussed would be a small fraction of the state pension (which is scrapped under UBI?) so it would be maybe 3k a year?

If it was only 3k a year, I'd continue to work full-time and just use it to overpay my mortgage or add to my savings. I think the switchover where I'd look to reduce my working hours would occur around 15k per year of UBI.

The only way I could see UBI being so generous is if AI eliminates the need for virtually all office jobs so the only jobs that people are needed for are more hands-on (construction, medical care etc) jobs that can't be automated / would likely be the very last jobs to be automated.

Aye that's more realistic but it's no very fun asking folk what they'd do with an extra 3 grand a year

I'd buy one of these every year. 8-)

If I didn't need to work, I absolutely would not.

I'd hope to use the extra time to pursue some kind of creative endeavour, and potentially look to monetise that for some extra income, but no way am I sticking with a normal office job if it isn't necessary.

I'd still work, but I'd stress about certain things less.

I'd likely continue with YouTube, but it would allow me to do so with a lot less pressure.

£50 note YouTube Video on the way.

The realistic answer is I'd continue as normal while using the additional money to enhance my lifestyle, probably in the form of posher restaurants and holidays.

The fun answer is I'd retire to spend my time reading, writing, playing music, playing games, travelling, volunteering and getting into arguments with Moggy on here.

Funnily enough, i've never actually had a 50, it's just something i've never really come across.

Probably stay working but save and plan to retire earlier. Like maybe mid 50s. Also I could take some nicer holidays buy a bigger house.

Probably retrain and get some sort of animal care qualification. I'd love to work with dogs. I know it doesn't necessarily pay the best but I couldn't handle the stress of a high paid job so I'd value doing something I'd love over something that pays well. As long as I had enough to live on with a bit left over for travel I'd be happy doing something I love even if it wasn't the best pay.

I'd probably carry on as normal for a bit and put the extra towards the mortgage. Then drop down to a 4-day week.

Just as well. Now they're plastic, they're not as absorbent as the Union Flag.

At first glance of the thread title I thought this topic might be about getting some kind of unfortunate infection

I’m in a fairly low paying job, so even with UBI, I’d carry on working as normal, or maybe drop down to 4 days depending how much the UBI is.
