Not a good idea - What if the controller is broken?

PS3 contoller with clip on triggers > Xbox 360 controller.

This. With every passing day I hate that awkward, shitty, plastic paddle more and more.

So you've been gamers for, how many years...and you still can't use a DualShock.

Who said we couldn't use it? :?
Ergonomically it's a ******* disaster. It feels cheap and awkward with naff trigger buttons and odd analog sticks.
The 360 pad is far superior in just about every conceivable way.

WRONG.

So, the D-Pad is better on the XBOX360 pad?, the face buttons are better on the XBOX360 pad?, the shoulder buttons are better on XBOX360's pad?.

I think not.

They both have good and bad points.

Not sure I'd agree with that...I mean I have them on because it does make a bit of a difference but XBOX360's triggers are still better.

The shoulder buttons are better on the 360 pad.

The face buttons are fine on the 360 pad.

The only 'problem' is the Dpad, and unless you are playing a 2D game you shouldn't be using it for the main input, so its hardly a problem at all.

The two things that really are important and the analogues and the triggers, both are bad on the PS3 pad and good on the 360 pad.

Thats game, set and match right there.

And if you've been using it for the last ten years like most people here have, it shouldn't make a gooseberry fool bit of difference.

How? The shoulder buttons...LB, RB...on the XBOX360 pad are microswitched whereas on the PlayStation3 pad they are pressure sensitive and easier to use. Not saying that LB, RB aren't easy to use but there's more scope with L1 and R1.

HSH28 wrote:The face buttons are fine on the 360 pad.

Yes, they are 'fine', just not as nice as the DualShock face buttons because:-
1. the face button are rounded whereas the DualShock face buttons are flat so for prolonged use the flat button will fare better, that's just the nature of the design on your fingers
2. DualShock face buttons are pressure sensitive and can provide more scope

XBOX360's D-Pad is atrocious...nearly useless, which is why Microsoft had a rethink for Pro Evo...if you remember.

HSH28 wrote:The two things that really are important and the analogues and the triggers, both are bad on the PS3 pad and good on the 360 pad.

Important to you yes...just remember that there are millions of other gamers that both controllers have to suit and not all games are perfectly suited to those two control functions.

HSH28 wrote:Thats game, set and match right there.

So, no then.

For me the triggers are better, the analogue sticks are better and the general shape is better designed.

They're gooseberry fool, is what they are. People are still claiming that a 14-year old controller design with some analogues chucked on as an afterthought is still suitable for modern gaming?

Say what?! The pedals are actually my preferred control options for racing games. They suck for shooters but racers they excel.

I'm sorry but thats laughable, it doesn't matter what you call them, they are functionally identical, only on PS3 they are badly designed to do that function.

Oh and cooldawn, the pressure senstitive buttons you love so much? Completely useless in the vast majority of games and only marginally of any value even when put to best use (which is almost never).

cooldawn wrote:Important to you yes...just remember that there are millions of other gamers that both controllers have to suit and not all games are perfectly suited to those two control functions.

3D games. Require analogue sticks. The analogue stick on the 360 pad is miles better than the one on the PS3 pad. Thats literally all that matters, just because lots of people don't know any better doesn't mean that those that do are wrong about it.

I could have sworn that pedals were traditionally foot-operated. Hence their name.

That wasn't my only point though, was it. It was just another reason why DualShock face buttons are, in fact, better.

Fix 360's D-Pad! Can't believe they used one piece of plastic for 4 buttons. :fp:

I'm becoming more and more tempted by the PS3 now, so I'm thinking about selling my 360 in the summer and picking one up. I'll probably wait until after E3 to see if anything changes my mind, but I'm not optimistic. (The only games I'm looking forward to are Vesperia and the next Fifa)

Valkyria Chronicles and Disgaea 3 look incredible in particular, I'm a huge SRPG fan, and there are lots of other games I'd like to try, too. (Uncharted and Ratchet spring to mind)

Then there's God of War 3, Final Fantasy 13 etc. in the future.

You realise that every other D-pad ever is simply one piece of plastic, right?

I'm sorry, you think its just me (or even just a few people) who says that the PS3 controllers analogue sticks are bad? Are you mad?
