I'm not too clued up on the world of tablets, but might be getting a free one with my next phone.

So, out of the following, which is generally considered to be the best?

iPad
Galaxy Tab
Nexus
Kindle HD/HDX

I'd be using it for apps and web browsing mainly.

Thanks.

You'd struggle to go terribly wrong with any of the devices listed, except maybe the Kindle. Really not fond of that Amazon launcher.

Yeah? Cool, have done a bit of research and was thinking of going for the Nexus. Will do some more research. More comments appreciated though.

Nexus is great, probably the best value out of those, too.

The iPad Mini is an 8" tablet, I have to say for browsing the web the size difference makes a big difference. Obviously with it being an Apple device its more locked down than its Android competitors and also more expensive if you are buying it.

I also have a Nexus 2012 model which is good too. The 2013 model put in a higher resolution screen and a camera.

Personally I'd rule out the Kindle because it doesn't really add anything and not getting stock Android is a problem.

The Galaxy Tab 3 comes in 7 or 8" versions, I think they are ok tablets but there's nothing compelling about the Tab 3.

I'm very happy with my Nexus (2013). It also has a 1080p screen, great for movies.

I think the 2013 Nexus model has a HDMI output too, which I do wish my older model had

Got my Mrs a nexus 10 for her birthday and she's had no complaints so I'd say it's a safe bet. One thing I've always wondered about tablets, and this is probably a noob question, but do you need to maintain them like you would do a PC, as in defrags/security scans? Surely they and smart phones get clogged up with all the installing and uninstalling of apps over time? Sorry to change the thread subject.

Flash memory does not need defragging. You can download some nasty malware gooseberry fool for Android though that's fairly intrusive.

The best practice is not to download said gooseberry fool, but if you must then Malwarebytes is my recommendation:
