Is there a video game series where you played and completed every entry up until a set point? The main one that comes to mind for me is Resident Evil... I purchased and Finished 1 to 5 (I will include Code Veronica and 0 in this as well) I got to 6 grabbed it and just to this day have never ever bothered to see it all the way through to the end.

Gears Of War 4. Just found it got really boring when the world opened up I should probably make an effort to finish it.

I finished Gears 4, but I found the exact same thing you found with 4 with 5.... I have actually uninstalled 5 and just called it a day about 2 months ago figuring id sooner play other things... I will always love the earlier games though, and id be more likely to replay 1 to 3.

Assassin's Creed Unity. That's also the game where I dropped the franchise. Assassin's Creed Red could tempt me back, we'll see

Yeah. Zelda Skyward Sword.

I was so excited for it, and I'd played and finished every Zelda up to that point, but it was such a dull game. I don't even mind the sword mechanics, but it was so "Zelda by the numbers". It wasted so much time in repeated segments and Fi was an awful character who never shut the hell up.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Final Fantasy 8.

Loved 7 so much, was so excited for 8 and after a while I just realised I wasn't enjoying it and never bothered to finish it. I think it may have been the first game on my PlayStation that I just dropped.

Did you play Rogue? It got criminally overlooked because it was the “last gen” release at the same time Unity was out for the new consoles. It’s like an extension of Black Flag. Well worth a play if you loved the series until Unity.

Creed for me is weird as I have fell on and off the franchise again and again.... Black Flag is the one I finished a few times and did the DLC for and everything.

My bad, Gears 5 is the one I was talking about. I can't even remember 4.

Final Fantasy is one - loved it on the PS1, went back and played the earlier games via ports and emulation and enjoyed those too, but the last mainline game I completed was X. I've got over halfway on XII a couple of times but never completed it and have barely touched any of the series since then.

Both XV and XVI have tempted me into a return, but they never quite sell themselves enough to make me think it's worth jumping back in.

Have you ever gone back to it?

It definitely falls short of 7 for me in terms of how compelling the story and characters are, but it's still got a lot going for it and some of the systems can be played around with in really fun ways.

I was similar to you in that 7 was huge for me but I didn't immediately click with 8 in the same way - I think I got pretty near the end when I dropped it on PS1, but then a year or so later I revisited it with the PC port and it all fell into place for me and now the game is definitely something of a guilty pleasure!

GTA V. I have zero hype for GTA VI as a result of this game being such a chore.

Yeah, I enjoyed Rogue, I agree it was definitely overlooked compared to others in the franchise.

I loved the series up until Unity and played through them all multiple times. Even AC3 which I love I know I'm in the minority here. I can't even remember why I dropped Unity, I don't think I engaged with the main character and the game just didn't grab me. London, Greece, Egypt and the Vikings weren't enough to bring me back. I was a little interested in Jade, at least for the setting, but the beta playthroughs I've seen don't look great and I wouldn't want to play it on my phone or a tablet anyway

Oh yeah, GTA is another big one.

Really enjoyed the original two 2D games, absolutely adored 3 but then gradually lost interest until 4 which was the last one I grudgingly finished. Have only briefly touched 5 and it just doesn't appeal at all any more

Metal Gear Solid 5 - absolutely loved it but I just couldn't be arsed completing it. The gameplay mechanics and controls were (still are?) the best I'd ever experienced in all my years of gaming, and I loved being choppered into remote areas and trekking to a nearby enemy base on foot under the cover of darkness, ready to wipe out the entire facility. But story-wise it just didn't grab me and after tens of hours the fatigue took hold and I walked away.

Majora's Mask. Got turned into useless Deku at the start and couldn't be bothered. Turned it off and never went back to it.

For context I should add that I jumped into it immediately after finishing OoT for the first time, so it was likely no fault of MM, I probably felt a bit burnt out.

Can't think of a 'big' game I actually finished.

No I didn't. I do Still have it though but I can't see me ever going back unless there's a full update like FF7R. I just don't have the nostalgia to play something that out of date, especially when there's xenoblade games I haven't touched yet.
