Not sure when I'll upgrade to 1080p never mind 4K.

Once it becomes standard when it comes to gaming and Blu-rays.

Just bought one, needed a tv and thought it best to futureproof. Got a 50 inch Panasonic for £750.

That might be what does it for me. I didn't get a 60Hz CRT TV until Metroid Prime 2 demanded it, and so it shall be again that advancing console gaming requirements will drag me into the future.

It's even worse for the earlier adopters of a few years ago, some sets will require upgrade packs to be able to watch things like Sky Sports as intended.

While a jump from HD to 4K is probably comparable to SD to HD it's I can't see myself getting a 4K TV unless my current TV randomly gives up the ghost, I doubt the standard TV channels will go UHD from HD with any kind of ease / not at a crazy high cost either.

I can't see myself upgrading my PC to be able to play games well at 4K any time soon as well.

I just bought a new TV last week. It's 1080p. Don't see the point in 4K yet when there's no content and when upscaling likely means adding lag to most games.

It did amuse me at work discussing my new TV and all the middle aged ladies laughing at my lack of a "4G" TV. I'd rather have a 1080P panel that performs excellently than a shitey looking 4K panel for the same price.

This thread seems more like advertising than market research. I have no plan to get a 4k TV as my current HD model is more than sufficient. I have however had a lifelong dream to one day go to a TV-selling-shop and buy the nicest, largest, most jaw-dropping TV available. So if I win the lottery tonight, I may have one soon :toot:

I've booked black friday off work and plan to get a new TV then.
My price limit will be £1200 for which I hope to get something pretty decent after the usual black friday discount.

I won't be suckered into buying a stupid curved set but it will have to be 4K and if they can get them into my price range then I may finally get myself an OLED after banging on about them for the last 5 strawberry floating years :fp: .

Why is it sad to plan for purchases which are quite expensive and only few and far between?
It's something I use every day and I'm hoping to get the best value for money and black friday is pretty well known to have some decent deals on TV's at places like John Lewis.

I don't buy replacements for things until the old one breaks. For my PC I still use a 22" 5:4 720p display I bought in 2006, and have no plans to replace it unless it breaks down on me, or I start doing a lot of work from home and can justify paying for a second screen.

It depends on when they become mass market, normal tv is 4k and when gaming is 4k!

We are not even 4k ready in general and this country won't be until 2019.

I bought a new TV in October last year.

Was initially thinking of getting a 4k but after doing a bit of research it seemed they had lag problems for gaming. Not much point buying a TV that doesnt actually perform as well with the console ive currently got and theres not much actual 4k stuff at the moment.

I also think if a 4k TV is the same price as a 1080 while it may be 4k surely in other ways it must be inferior.

So in the end spent £800 on a new model 55" 1080 Smart Bravia. This is best suited to what i am outputting at the moment.

By the time 4k is standard for consoles and TV the latest TVs should be far better than what is available now.

The TVs I have are doing a decent job and I have no plans to replace them. The next time I buy a TV I'll make sure it's 4K but that's likely to be years away.

You will easily get a decent 4k TV for that price now without waiting for a sale.

Yes but buying one now would mean he misses out on having a fight in Asda for a Polaroid TV.

I've seen a 4k demo and the quality is amazing. But there's just not enough content out there and there won't be for a several years to make the purchase appealing to me.

You are supposed to just watch the demo, don't be greedy wanting other content.

Yes?
