:?

I was fairly certain that, for a long time, Play.com was a pretty reliable source of bargains. At least a few quid knocked off high street prices and some great sales. But now, what's happened? It's prices seem to have started matching and often exceeding what I can stroll in and get in HMV.

Whazzup wit dat?

They used to regularly have new release PC games for £17.99. No more. :(

CDs are frequently over £10 as well, which isn't banging.

I usually rely on Amazon Marketplace. You can usually get things new, and for a cheaper price.

There was a time when Amazon were reliably cheaper too. I guess once you get established you don't need to be luring people in with especially low prices.

That's probably more to do with HMV really upping it's game than any decline in Play.

Even their preowned section has a few, Game style bargains - back from a million years ago when GAME's preowned actually had the odd bargain.

I never use them for anything other than bargains, their stuff is overpriced and takes 5 working days to get to me, which is just ridiculous. When you see Saints Row 2 for £35 as deal of the week, you know things are bad.

Know what you mean, the Wall-E DVD is £17.99 on Play, in Argos, it's just £10.

CoD:WaW got to me 2 days before it was released.

Although I agree, you can't get bargains on there anymore.

The web prices have all become so similar lately I've wondered if they're colluding between each other, just went to order Dark Knight and Wall-E on BR and they're both the same price on Amazon, HMV and Play.

They never became gooseberry fool. Play.com are easily the best online retailer I've used. I use them all the time and frequently find bargains.

They are still very reliable and offer cheaper prices than most.

Play.com are awesome. They're a lot cheaper than most of the competition, and I order from them regulary. Although Craig is right in that their delivery times seem to have gone up.

I don't think Play have become crap, it's just that supermarkets have more interest in selling media now and can do so more cheaply.

I've had a grudge against them since the launch of the Xbox 360. I preordered one with them months in advance and they then let me know that they couldn't go process my order a week before launch because of lack of stock. DON'T strawberry floating LET ME ORDER IF YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH! This lack of notice meant I had no chance of getting one anywhere else as well, although in the end I managed to get one soon after launch from Pell, who was a true Gentleman. What most annoyed me about Play was that they hadn't even taken a first come-first serve policy on the orders, they had processed the orders that spent the most. I've hated them since.

this, I personally like Play and Amazon, you get what you pay for though when you buy cheap dvds, they take a strawberry floating age to arrive, but when you are getting a recentish release for like £5 it's worth it.

Er, as far as Amazon's concerned, they don't usually take longer than a couple of days for me, which is fair enough with the free delivery option. Play however, take a week to get my items to me. Now the delivery is even worse? Christ, I could be looking at two weeks!

Nearly everything is sent 2nd class now, that's why. Royal Mail do a spectacularly shitty job with 1st class post, so what hope does 2nd class have?
