Friday 16th.A forest ranger, Schulz, passes through the Swiss hamlet of Zwieselberg on a routine patrol.
Saturday 17th.Everyone in Thun District who had contact with Schulz is transferred to a quarantine overseen by the elite Swiss black ops organisation, Detachment 10.
Sunday 18th.The Gamma, Delta, Lambda, and Sigma squads of Detachment 10 are despatched to the village, with orders to secure it by any means necessary.
Within hours, all contact was lost with the task-force.Their story now unfolds.
The case file was disturbing, even by AAD-10 standards. The village was a bloodbath: every man, woman, and child, dead. They were found in the streets, at the parks, around the farms, all with the same mortality: scratch marks all over, the flesh of the throat torn open, blood under their fingernails.
Why would a peaceful village of only a few hundred residents commit this horrific mass suicide? That's what you're here to find out. But you've barely finished your sweep of the village hall when an explosion shakes the entire hillside. Adjusting your hazmat mask and rushing outside, you see the comms van in burning pieces... and the operation commander lying still, throat open, blood pooling.
The advanced combat drone, Ariel, hovers towards the wreckage; another soldier approaches it. "Drone, give us a thermal sweep of the area out to two clicks. Locate theNuttewho did this! Now!"
The drone shoots into the air, rotates twice, and issues a reply which sends panic through the gathering crowd.
"Thirty-six life-signs within two clicks: the nine members of Gamma squad; the nine members of Delta squad; the nine members of Lambda squad; the nine members of Sigma squad; end."
The murderer of your commander is amongst you. Whatever is happening in this village, it's already begun to affect the task-force. What's more, comms are down, and you know HQ will assume the worst. The backup squads in Reutigen and Amsoldingen will already be locking down the only paths out of Zwieselberg. The only way out now is to complete your mission and send up coded flares for aerial extraction.
Every day at 13:00, an Acting Commander must have been elected democratically, with public votes counted fairly in-thread, with only votes submitted at or before 12:59 forum time counting. The Acting Commander must within 30 minutes indicate to Ariel via PM a person to eliminate. Ariel will eliminate a random person if an Acting Commander is not elected, or if they fail to select a target.
Ariel won't kill the Acting Commander, even if selecting a target randomly. Furthermore, an Acting Commander can't put forward his or her own name to be killed.
If an Event is running, then decisions relating to that Event will be made at 16:00 and 19:00.
Night roles have until 22:00 to inform Ariel via PM of their desired actions. Ariel will protect the Acting Commander from any night role interaction.
After the results of night actions have been confirmed, votes can start to be counted for the next Acting Commander.
The forces of evil within this village will win automatically if they equal or outnumber the soldiers.
The game ends if at least three of four coded flares are launched. At any time, a squad may decide to launch their flare if a simple majority of its living members indicates to Ariel via PM that they wish to do so. (If a squad is eliminated, its flare is transferred to a different squad at random.) If the game ends in this manner, the soldiers win if and only if the forces of evil have been entirely eliminated; otherwise, the forces of evil win.
Other victory conditions may be introduced during Events.
There can be no personal victory in death.
The forum alt account rules(so people don't get confused about what they can or cannot use their alt account for!)
Part of the horror premise of this game relies on me being able to freely manipulate your forum account, which is why we're using alts for it.
Don't use your forum game account for anything other than participating in the forum game. When playing the game, only use your forum game account. Don't discuss the game using your main account, or any form of communication external to the forum. Don't take screenshots of PMs, or directly quote their text to anyone — you may in the course of gameplay describe their contents in your own words if you wish. Don't change the password to your forum game account, and don't assume or expect your forum game account is secure. I may for gameplay reasons read, send, delete, or modify posts or PMs in your forum game account: your forum game account belongs to me, the game-master, to do with as I see fit.
PMs are allowed from any alt account to any alt account. But you can't screenshot or quote them for any reason. And don't try to loophole these rules by emailing, texting, chatting IRL, etc.
It is your responsibility to ensure you post in the right threads with the right accounts. You can use the Private Browsing feature of most browsers to log in under both accounts at once, which makes it easy to switch, but if you get confused then that's on you.
Finally, on a personal note... I'm willing to give a little leeway with deadlines (at my discretion). In return, please don't freak out if I'm a bit late with something, particularly during the day: I am probably just stuck in a meeting.

The task-force finishes its sweep of the village. It's getting late. Despite everyone's mutual suspicion, there's nothing left to do but get a good night's sleep and investigate more thoroughly tomorrow.
[Locked until I've set up all the alts and role PMs (with login details) have gone out. This is likely to beverylate tonight. I wanted to get the rules out there, but the game hasn't started, so don't stay up — check back in the morning!
[EDIT: Role PMs have gone out to alts, the main Who Is Online page (but not the summary) is disabled, and passwords are going out to mains. Thread unlocked — the game starts now.Sorry again I was a bit late.]
[EDIT 2: All password PMs were sent a while ago, so let me know if you haven't received one.]

1. Choose an avatar from the gallery. I am already tired of seeing you all as faceless meatbags. Not mine, or I'll shoot you. Haha, just kidding! Funny human joke! (Not kidding. I have very temperamental beta programming and I will probably shoot you.)
2. Elect an Acting Commander. Or my protocols dictate I need to start eliminating you.
My simulations predict there may be further tasks after the election.
Presumably the only advantage in going with a named commander is if someone has a role which gives them an advantage over a random kill in that position? But yeah I think we could easily just roll the dice on day 1.
