You reach the cockpit. It is with confusion and a dawning horror that you realise what lies within.

The cockpit door has been breached with an axe. The copilot's throat is torn open. The force of the crash has torn the pilot completely asunder, and a now dead yellow parasite is visible, winding up his spine.

I agree, I will supervise this extraction operation from a very safe distance.

Growth, you pick up the pilot's toolkit from under the flight panel and set to work extracting the black box. It's careful work that you are doing quickly under immense pressure, and the name of the game is to avoid causing damage to the unit.

First, you need to remove the front panel. You don't have time to use a screwdriver here, so you carefully extract the panel with a small crowbar.

The next step is to detach the unit from its housing. There are thumbscrews, but you need to tear the clips off with pliers.

Um, 2. Please don't drone stike me. This is very tense.

The unit takes only 1 point of damage from that tricky manoeuvrer. You're doing great.

The unit is now detached from its housing on both sides. Above and below, there are wires connecting the unit to the flight computer. You need to desolder them, but in thsi situation you'll have to make do with slicing them with a sharp knife. But it's imperative you don't damage the unit's I/O pins.
