I've had Ghazghkull Thraka built for about 10 months, and couldn't work up the courage to start painting it. He's the centrepiece of the Ork army after all.

However, I was off work sick earlier in the week and decided to tackle him.
Spent about 7 hours on him, but it doesn't look it from where it is at the moment.

Image

I'd say I have another 6-7 hours to go on him, but happy with it so far.
The scratchy highlights on his claw are because I was coughing like made with my chest infection, so inadvertently decided to do a scratchy junkyard style highlight.. but I don't mind it!
Need to fix the red on his left cheek too.. such a narrow eye-slit!

Had a fantastic Warhammer Christmas this year.
Got absolutely shedloads of stuff - should last me all year haha!

Image

Told the missus to pick a Combat Patrol at Random, as long as it wasn't Orks or Space Marines, and pretty happy with The Votann, I've got a basing idea for them already (I've been hoarding old hand warmer packets, as the material inside looks like tiny lumps of coal with gold and silvery flecks in it, going to go fully into the space dwarf miners idea!)

Been after a Brutalis since the Strike Force Agastus box was announced, I'm going to paint it black with Death Company insignia for my blood angels for a primaris flavoured Furioso 8-)

Dante for my blood angels is a win - just SO much gold to paint :dread:

I was hoping to buy the Red Gobbo anyway to make a tree decoration, so happy to have it bought for me instead

And the Sigmar Chaos Lord, I'm not sure really... Do I start a Sigmar Chaos army?
Orrrr.... Do I convert it into a 40k Ork Warboss on his crazy beast mount?

Oh and the Army Painter primer is because I've been complaining that the weather isn't right to use my rattle cans, so I've not painted in months.
Apparently it brushes on nicely, so I'm going to give it a shot!

I got Nagash, the Flesh Eaters Dawnbringers box and a Terrorgheist/Zombie Dragon.

I also got myself the Flesh Eaters army set because the new designs were too good to not get into.

What an absolute arse ache this chubby fella was to build!
Took me strawberry floating hours and hours! Went to bed at 2am!

The amount of "do not glue" articulated joints (which I kept accidentally gluing) was a pain.

He's a handsome fat boy though

Yeah, I mentioned last year the dreadnought I built was a nightmare. Great looking moulds but GW could learn a thing or two from proper established model makers when it comes to construction.

By the way, I've been getting the itch to return to painting that dreadnought. I might get it all out again and have another go at it.

The old buy 80 copies of this magazine for models is still going strong, and not gonna lie this is extremely tempting.

Kind of gutted about Combat Patrol. It’s an awesome collection but I just can’t justify £40-50 a month when I’m only interested in Marines, Orks and Tyranids, and finding others who both want the other six factions and don’t want the three I’m interested in seems like a ballache to organise over the course of 18+ months.

I don't understand the appeal of the magazine subscriptions. There doesn't seem to be any saving over buying Combat Patrol boxes, and you need to wait 2 years to get everything. And who really wants 9 different armies?

Sure some issues will be a bargain £10 for a squad of minis, if you can get hold of a copy. Other issues are overpriced with 2 paints worth £5.

Sad news. Ansell was responsible for a management buyout of GW in 1993 which led to the dedication of the company to Warhammer and 40k and all their legendary 1990’s spinoffs. (What I wouldn’t pay for a reprint of 1996 Warhammer Quest)

The subscriptions have always been aimed towards newcomers to the hobby, especially when most are focused on 1 or 2 armies with a smattering of others.

If you get the full subscription then the paints vs models cost does balance out. Plus each force has 1 extra model/unit on top of the base box so a bit of savings there.

All down to interest at the end. Most existing players will maybe get an odd issue if they can, but if you're starting fresh then it's a taster of the various armies.
