I didn't know that Steve Jackson had put out reprints of both Car Wars and the pocket version of Ogre - the latter being the same price it was in the late 70s - $2.99.

I finally caved and bought a box of Grey Knight Terminators and a Venerable Dreadnought to go with them :P I've been ogling them since their release, they're easily among my favourite GW minis

They're mostly for display in my miniatures cabinet, but I reckon I can make a 500pt unbound list with them if I fancy fielding them on their own. I plan to build them as Paladins (I prefer the look of the Paladin heads plus the Apothecary) and I'm going to give them all unique weapons so each one looks different and cool 8-)

I've come up with some names for them too, I'll try to write the first names on their right shoulder pads when I come to paint them up as I believe that's what the little scrolls sculpted on them are for.

The Paladins:
Brother Gaius Patronus aka The Apothecary General (armed with warding stave)
Brother Titus Decimus aka Daemons' Doom (armed with daemon hammer)
Brother Magnus Gladius aka Stormbringer (armed with force sword)
Brother Gannicus Primus aka The Slayer of Xel'thrax (armed with falchions)
Brother Lucius Severus aka The Silver Viper (armed with halberd)

The Venerable Dreadnought:
Brother Brutus Maximus aka The Knight Eternal (armed with assault cannon and power fist)

Some Spartacus, Harry Potter and other references and translations in there

The big power fist on the Venerable Dreadnought just looks the business, and I have an extra Paladin head from the Terminators box so I'll use that one instead of the heads they give you to link him in better with the other guys. I'm starting to build him tonight :D

My local art shop has a pile of paints in a box at half price, and I'm really struggling for art /design inspiration at the moment, so figure I might just paint some miniatures as a way to meditate. The sheer amount of figures I have left and never painted is just ridiculous. One thing I appreciate about miniatures is they're so small and they don't require loads of assembly painting separate parts, that with larger models I seem to insist on doing in the hand painted style of miniatures that just takes strawberry floating ages.

Im gonna do an inventory of what paint I have and then go and stock up so I have lots of colour options and don't have to mix as many colours as possible. Hopefully there's a decent enough range left that I can get a fairly complete set at half the cost (assuming half price lands the cost at about 1.50 to 2 snoops per pot that's far more reasonable).

Think they have some spray seal or white primer as well, not sure.

I recently picked up a single tau drone recently and just found an old epic tank  albeit with the turret missing (can easily make something), so that'll be a small place to start and then maybe progress to something like some tyranid rippers or spore mines.

They look well good by strawberry float current prices. I heard armies cost £300 now.

Inventoried my paints and going to pick some up now, I'll post up if I do anything this weekend. They were only £1.15 each!! They're getting rid of the entire lot because they can't be having the new range that wastes floor space and nobody buys them anymore, forcing them to liquidate their current stock.

Shop did them for a quid each so I picked up 25 colours for £25, would have been £75 back in the day :datass: finally stocked up on about 8 flesh tones so I can do faces (all mine were screw caps so dried out years ago :fp: ) , a full grey gradient so might do some urban stuff, paints to do a decent camo look and a couple grounds for the standard tyranid paint job, so maybe I'll actually get those made up. Some of the new dry and texture paints which will be interesting to try out.. I thought the dry paints were dried out when I opened them lol.

I have a tiny amount of goblin green left for goblins and bases, unfortunately there was none of that, no white either, and no ultramarine blue (I know has a new name now), but that's only 3 to pick up.

What's the best place to buy the 3rd party colours? Jela or something.

Had to make a massive spreadsheet to figure out what I had and the new names, up to 72 now. Took two hours to unseperate all the paints...

The new pot designs are probably the best. I like how the lids hold themselves open.

For that much the very least I'd expect is for it to be remote controlled and walk around.

It's like an angry toddler :D amazing in real life, makes the Reaver look tiny.

The new Warhammer World is well worth a visit by the way.

First look at the new Warhammer fantasy:

Image

Looks very 40K...

I originally got into fantasy because it allowed me to command armies on the tabletop and push around big blocks of minis - this doesn't look anything like that. I really hope it's not all skirmish on round bases going forward.

honestly embarrassing. GW have gone from being market-leader to copying other newer brands (Warmachine etc.)

I always liked how bright and distinct fantasy was
This is nothing like that

I actually kinda liked that Warhammer Fantasy was a more generic fantasy setting compared to other fantasy miniatures games, and GW have really dominated that style for decades. It's part of the reason why I'm not into Warmahordes, that stuff all looks a bit odd to me (and I believe looking different was their goal from the start) - it doesn't scratch the same itch for me. Now that GW seem to want to copyright and trademark everything, and if those Sigmarines are anything to go by, they appear to be taking a different direction in style. Will it hold as much appeal as their old stuff? Time will tell.

It almost looks as if they're going for a more classical antiquity look.

Could quite easily pass for thunderhammer storm shield Termies.

From WarSeer:
Concerning models:
humans much larger in scale than standard WHFB humans
not just more bulky and differently proportioned, but I mean the models themselves stand taller, they're just a different scale as WHFB humans (each about the size of a Terminator)
about the model compatibility, and they just went like "yeah well if someone really wants to use their old armies they can, but we didn't intend the new models and old models to be compatible, we think larger models are the way forward, blah blah"

Concerning rules:
it's really for small battles and not as deep and strategic like LOTR was
very simplified, seems intended for short quick beer & pretzel games, lots of random and little strategy
no way you can use it for existing warhammer armies, so with the scale difference and incompatible rules I don't think there's any point in rebasing your existing collection
'post it note' size of the rulebook is pretty much accurate
very much revolves around your commander, which has elaborate special rules
rest of the squads feels much as filler for the commanders to smash up and feel good about
no info yet about anything planned for really large-scale battles
