Yeah the split is definitely not right. Visions for the price is ridiculous, but I think the weekly WD can work. It just means you're not tied in to getting something all the time. EG - this month with the majority of releases being for Dwarves and Fantasy then no 40K players are going to shell out for this.

While I'm a fantasy player I don't want to shell out on a mag thats focusing on Space Marines or the latest 40k launch.

Prices in the stores is a huge reason that GW gets alot of stick, everything is orientated towards sell sell sell by the staff and it's a bad thing. So many times I've been put off by a GW store because the first thing they say to you as you walk in is "What are you looking to buy today?", it's why I like my local store at the Metro Centre, staff are friendly, want to talk game with you and don't try and push stock onto you ever.

I very rarely (unless I really need something before a game in a couple of days) buy from GW directly, there's enough online stores to keep the price down I think if it was GW and only that for the future to buy products I'd be not buying at all. £50 for a model in GW or £30 online/from one of the local suppliers who comes to the Sunday club and can order things in and it's no question which one I'm choosing.

Anyway I've got enough Fantasy to keep me occupied painting for a while so can't see me shelling out on anything else in the next couple of months.

At the moment I'm slowly building my first Flames of War army, and looking at adding to my Soviet Bolt Action force.

I'm looking at the new teams for dreddball, I've got a Dwarf team sitting here needing painted, but I'm going to try and bust 24 Soviet inf today for boltaction, day off, shitty outside, everyone is at work and I've got some DVD's from xmas to plough through.

Might go grab a macdonalds, put on pacific rim and paint these strawberry floaters.

I didn't know this thread existed. I play mainly 40k and Fantasy but I also have an Infinity force. I've got quite a lot of 40k I have Space Wolves, Dark Angels, Tau Empire, Chaos Space Marines and Dark Eldar armies. I have an Ogre Kingdoms army for Fantasy. Been working on a unit of bulls recently which has been cool Ogre's are great to paint.

That sounds like a good plan for the day. Unfortunately I'm finding it hard to prime anything at the moment with the weather

Recently I've been watching Band of Brothers while doing my painting, gives a good background though sometimes I get distracted and find I've just held a model for 15mins while watching the screen rather than doing anything with it  .

I know how that can happen!

Funny you mention band of brothers, reason I did an airborne force for bolty. Pacific has me wanting to do a Japanese force next.

Yeah with the recent Bolt Action Pacific launch that they've been doing I'm wanting to do a Japanese force at some point. Though I do like the Warlord sets they're so fiddly to put together it's a bit off putting....might have a look at some other companies and see whats available.

I was wanting a FOW force but they only do the Early War Soviet v Japan at the moment. Moment they release a Pacific book/forces I'll be all over it!

Agree the Ogres were my first Fantasy army when I got back into it and they're great models to build and paint.

Always good to not need hundreds of models too, Tournament on Sunday had whole 2400pts in one KR Multicase Box!

I guess you have hands like me then, paper plates with sausage balloons for fingers tied to it?

Alot of my soviets are plastic, but my japanese is going to be an island defence plattoon, all metal.

Some links for WWII, and other models, in 28mm here.

http://www.westwindproductions.co.uk/ca ... Path=205_1 - loads of stuff, some really nice Soviets, including cav...

http://artizandesigns.com/ - really good range, good delivery

http://www.wargameterrain.co.uk/index.p ... at&catId=2 - strawberry float tonne of terrain, and cheap

http://www.blacktreedesign.com/uk/home.php - really really cheap, sign up to their news letter for 50% sales and stuff, but take ages to post.

This new white Dwarf farce is just the tip of the ice berg.

Just to be straight, I quit GWS about 10 years ago, they priced me out, you are either with the company so long and know nothing else that you except the price, or like me, you take a step back and tell them the strawberry float off.

Now we're in a golden age of miniature gaming, the only other time I really can think of was the early 90's, when GWS offered a massive range of games and models, but now with the advent of kickstarter, break away members of the old GWS games designers (mantic and warlord for example) making games that under cut GWS and offer things the fan base have been crying for for years (space scavens, squats, blood bowl in 40k, otherwise dreadball, warhammer ancient battles, now basically pike and shottie, hail cesar) and totally new games popping up literately every month GWS really need to sort their gooseberry fool out.

They ain't going to go away, they are massive, and to be honest I wouldn't want them to go away, or go under, but the last few years have been an absolute jawdropper in crazy/absurd business decisions, like this white Dwarf caper.

It's like they truely hate their user base, trying to squeeze every last penny outta them and not shifting forward, it's not working for them, their stock drop has shown this, their shrinking user base is showing this, the fact store are closing shows this, and it's not just the fact there's more on the market now than ever before, it's because they refuse to acknowledge their "premium models" price and strick marketing and total disregard to take feedback are pushing people into the arms of newer more flexable, reasonably priced competitors.

Rant over.

Bang on.

So I got a couple of cool things yesterday.

Picked up a really old board game made by GWS of all people.

And a second copey of Necromunda and the outlanders expansion with another Orlock plastic gang, Goliath gang, Esher gang, Delaque gang and old school Arbites :D

So going to get them painted and run a wee necro campaign in the next few months me thinksfor some of my friends.

A mate was having a clear out, £90 for all the gangs and the game and expansion, he's got 2 other gangs, metal Orlocks and Goliaths, but I have so many already (enough to make 2 Goliath gangs, 3 Orlocks) I didn't take them.

On the look out for a Cowdor and Van Saar gang so I have all six houses.

When I get paid next month I'm going to get some MDF and base all the terrain to make it all sturdy, makes it more of a banana split to store, but due to it's cardboard construction it's very delicate, so that should help strengthen it all.

I'll get pictures up when it's all done, but at the mo I could easily fill three 4x4 tables of necro terrrain tables.

Feels good.

I have two original rule books for the game and outlanders, and the strawberry floating mess second edition, going to sell a set to a friend who has a load of repemtionists.

Also in the box there was one of those freebie mags GWS used to put out in the early 90's, tonnes of pictures for titan legions, talisman, epic space marines, man O war, squats and tonnes of other stuff. Full of nolstalga.

I need to make an effort to get back into gaming this year. I seriously neglected it for the second part of last year and I'm not really sure why. Not sure I can really remember how to play now  :fp:

Will have to pop back to a GW for a lesson or two with my Space Marines.

Few games and you'll be back into it. Where's your nearest GW?

Anyone been to Warhammer World? Want to go at some point this year.

Not far at all. I'm back living in Redcar and the nearest GW is in Middlesbrough, so a 20 minute drive away.
Before I go down will have to have a flick back through the rule book and my codex as well. Has there been a new Space Marine codex recently? The one I have at the moment I picked up about 2 and a half years ago now.
