New stuff from NOVA!

For years, you’ve clashed across the most war-torn battlefields of the 41st Millennium in hard-fought skirmishes and titanic conflicts – but the galaxy is a huge place, with many dark corners still to explore.

Just as Warhammer Quest allowed you to visit the sinister labyrinth of the Silver Tower and the bustling underworld of Hammerhal, now it will put you at the heart of one of Warhammer 40,000’s most enduring mysteries – a Blackstone Fortress.

Part role-playing adventure, part battle game, Warhammer Quest: Blackstone Fortress promises a cooperative narrative experience in the 41st Millennium like no other – and will feature a host of stunning new miniatures that bring all manner of champions and villains from the lore to life as never before.

Speed Freeks is a high-Orktane racing game set in the desert expanses of Vigilus, pitting Orkish bikes and buggies against one another in brutal, unpredictable death races. As well as containing the Shokkjump Dragsta and the Kustom Boosta-blasta, you’ll be able to bring all the rest of the new Ork buggies to your games.

Anyone else feel like the new Ork Buggy is rather too big? I mean, to get the most out of it, I feel like you'd need a game board the size of a whole room.

Fantastic new 40k fan film project underway, here's the first two episodes:

I've discovered an extremely cost-effective and interesting game by Osprey, who have carved out a niche of cheap, light tabletop games that are miniature-agnostic. This one in particular is called Gaslands and is a post-apocalyptic car combat game that is much more streamlined than stuff like Car Wars, but you use Hot Wheels/Matchbox cars to play it with and you are encouraged to modify them to be appropriately ramshackle/armoured:

There are also plenty of guide videos about using old electronics, carboard and cheap paints/components from poundland etc to convert them:

I popped out earlier and picked up 8 hot wheels/poundland own-brand cars for £7, you couldn't get a quarter of one of those ork buggies for that I reckon.

Reminds me of a few painted matchbox style cars I did way back. One looks very similar to that, it has "trash" painted on the side, I pummelled it with a hammer

I may have raided the nearby Poundland/Tesco stores for suitable hot wheels and matchbox cars to get started on this :shifty: it's such a breath of fresh air to get so many models for a wargame at such low prices compared to GW etc.

Recently took up figure painting again.

Had to buy some reading glasses as my eyesight isn't what it used to be.

That's pretty good man, I might add a couple more highlights and flood a few near black washes/inks in the robe for example. Although the photo is just a bit underexposed.

Thanks. The photo isn't great and didn't pick out the highlights or shading as much as I would have liked, but that's purely down to me. I bought one of those Sony Cybershots (based on my budget) and haven't really gotten my head around it. Photography isn't my strong point.

A couple more. Still getting my head around this camera, but it'll do for now. (If anyone here uses a Sony Cybershot and can offer advice that would be great).

have you tried with your mobile camera?
i think you need more natural light on these - difficult i know as not always the right time of day/area of the house to take them in

Mobile camera is naff, hence why I bought the camera for picture taking (not just figures, but family holidays etc).

Try manually bumping up the ISO to 400 or 800 although it may look grainy. Otherwise you need a longer exposure (shutter mode or S) but may be shaky on a cybershot, or opening up the aperture to the maximum amount, which is the LOWEST number (e.g. 2.8) on aperture priority mode (A).

If they weren't very good or something I couldn't muster a comment for minimal improvement I wouldn't post ;)

Much better. I can tell from boring photo stuff that the camera probably won't get much better unless you step up. Really nice basing. Your colour use is very good!

Ah good, I'll stick with this set up then. I'm not that much into photography that I'd spend much more on another camera.

As for the base, good old polystyrene and bits from a plastic miniature sprue!
