Yup the Skaven team which released the same time as the Blood Bowl box was £20 or from 3rd party retailers I picked it up for £16 for the team.

Apparently all the Star Players and that are coming through Forgeworld though so that'll be a bit more expensive.

Of course - you can get the basic teams for less then they'll sting you for the better players. However generous they may appear, it's the same GW underneath.

It's definitely not the same GW. Their ethos and openess in the past year has been remarkable and a complete u-turn. The amount of community stuff their doing at the moment is amazing.

That's impeccable sculpture.

I like the Tyranid influences.

That mechanicum model is just plain bonkers!

I've not learnt 40K but if the rumoured next edition comes out next year with simpler revised rules I'll definitely be playing.

Also previewed in the newest Warhammer TV video. New Tzeentch army for Age of Sigmar!

I don't know why they chose to separate WH Fantasy and 40k into different universes. It would've worked fine being set on a world on the outer edges of the 40k galaxy, surrounded by warp storms, far beyond the range of the Astronomican.

Argh so much cool stuff! :toot:

I'm really hoping for simpler rules for the next edition of 40K too. It's gotten very bloated over the years - I think if they can reduce the barrier of entry, 40K will grow bigly!

I also would like simpler rules. And a less insane amount of dice.

I really need to get back into 40k next year. I started getting back into it a while ago (and is even why I started this thread!) but I just lost the time for it.
Need to finish my Necron set and then maybe get back to my Space Marines.

That's the thing, if they allow small squad play / HQs then you won't need to finish a £50-£100 / thousand hour army just to play the game.

Allowing small squad play won't diminish the big battles, though. In fact, allowing bite-sized skirmish warfare could be a great gateway for beginners who could be drawn into building larger armies.

People can also team up and isn't it more interesting to have more players on the table and I love the idea of really skilled players or strong units being a pain in the ass and changing the sway of battle eg a rogue Red Terror which usually requires a 5000 point Tyranid army. It would cause so much bumpain but that's the point. They would get swallowed by a larger army soon enough or they would be allowed to live as wildcards.

I participated briefly in a large multi-person battle in Carlisle's GW, with just one squad of Chaos Space Marines (Black Legion, IIRC), many moons ago. I couldn't play for very long due to other things going on in my life, but I've always been proud that my dozen or so Marines were able to bring down some cocky git's Eldar Vyper in the time I had to play. I was the wild card. So yeah, small scale fights or small squad play with multiple players, I'd be down for that.

I think it's telling that games like Necromunda, Gorkamorka and Mordheim haven't survived very long; the mass appeal (and money) of small-scale skirmish stuff isn't there, also there are several other games systems which offer that kind of skirmish gaming that are a lot cheaper.

The Eye of Terror is about to open and unleash a tide of darkness, Daemons and traitors into an already beset Imperium. Against the unified might of the Traitor Legions stand the heroes of the Cadian Gate, who will stop at nothing to drive back the Gathering Storm.

The scene is set for the most epic narrative in the history of the 41st Millennium – a fitting celebration of 30 years of Warhammer 40,000 and a great way to kick off the next 30 years of grim darkness in the far future.

The Gathering Storm begins with the epic events detailed in the Fall of Cadia – available for pre-order on January 7th.

I don't necessarily mean small skirmish, I mean allowing small units at all.
