So it’s ok for the smell to go inside the neighbours house, but not near his washing line?

He should close the windows I'm sure where has windows on both sides of the house.

gooseberry fool how much smoke can there be it is a BBQ not a bonfire he is being a little bitch.

If his washing was out it is a bit inconsiderate to fire up a bonfire or BBQ, the decent thing to do is say hi we are planning on having a BBQ at X time so they can get they pants in.

You can't bitch about someone having a BBQ it's pathetic.

44% of GRcade would.

Majority wouldn't, that right there democracy, i suggest they get over it, move on, and close their windows.

If you're using gas, you aren't barbecuing. You're just cooking outside.

Do you have lava rock in your kitchen? The taste of barbeque comes from the fat dripping down and smoking the meat, charcoal does not add taste, just strange, elitist opinions.

There has to be a legal course you can take with that as that can't be right.

Neighbor has a wood stove. Called the fire department after we saw embers coming out of the flue.

It doesn't matter how much you like barbecues, or how sunny it is. You haven't got any right to pollute someone else's environment.

If I was the neighbour, I'd randomly masturbate and fling the jizz through Moggy's friend's open windows.

We had a really moany neighbor last time, and once they did have a barbecue while my girlfriends washing was out, which was pretty gooseberry fool. Had shake it all off and freshen it with spray, as it was for an evening out and work the following day. Some people are inconsiderate but summer bbqs are a regular thing and should just be avoided on a windy day or don't use a strawberry float load of coal.

I can't believe people are siding wth the neighbour. The smell of a barbeque is a legitimate summer pleasure, if your friend was cooking smoked mackerel or hair or something then it might have been particularly horrible but my money is in the neighbour being a moaning old banana split. I would go and complain next time he turns on his extractor fan while cooking

I’ll be having a (charcoal) bbq this afternoon in my garden, my neighbours can choke on it for all I care, the bloody door slammers.

Gas barbecues are pointless, the whole point of it is surely the smokiness of the food when cooked. Otherwise it is just like cooking indoors.

I think it depends on the garden layout. Don’t be a dick and cook right by an open window. Move down the garden abit. But then are barbecues really making that much smoke? Was your mate putting paper in there or something?

Correct. But the smoke comes from fat dripping on the hot coals/lava rock, the only taste you will get from charcoal exclusively is lighter fluid.

Is this a big problem? I live fairly rural and the farmers and that do have the occasional bonfire but it's not a regular occurrence.

Not when it fills up your house on a hot day.

Unfortunately, where i live there seems to have a rather large dickhead ratio, so as soon as the sun comes out and we get a bit of fine weather, all hell breaks loose and it's just a never ending cycle of bonfires, feral kids, leaf blowers, and general antisocial wankery.

Nope, t'is always bonfires.

That is apart from the one time when one of my neighbours bought a mini incinerator (metal dustbin with a chimney) and used it to burn all sorts of toxic crap.

The people next door to me seems to sell second hand stuff for a living. They seem to burn all the stuff they can't sell in their back garden which causes a horrible amount of toxic smoke.

That said you should be able to BBQ in your back garden, but you should be somewhat respectable of your neighbours, when I have a BBQ I go down the far end of the garden as far away from the houses as I can get.

I think as a courtesy it might be nice to inform the neighbour you are having a bbq, just so they know they should shut their windows. Or only have ones front facing open (assuming you bbq in the back garden).

Apparently here you have to give notice if you are having a bbq on your balcony in apartments, and you are only allowed a coal fired one something like twice a month. Not sure how true that is though and is perhaps an urban legend.

I think that would be covered under local by laws or your tenancy agreement, so while it's probably true it won't cover the whole country.
