Who are these wretched people who still have these vile things in their windows? Do they purposefully want to make their house looks like something off Open All Hours or Rising Damp?

I don't want people being able to see into my house at all times. Also, you can get nice looking net curtains.

What happens if its a nice sunny day and you just want to let the sun in?

You didn't think of that, DID YOU?

I hate to tell you this, but sunlight goes through net curtains. They're deliberately made so light can get in.

What's the alternative to a net, just letting people look into your home? How is that better?

I have mine angled so they let in all the sun in the day and passers by at street level can't see in.

I use nets.

They have to be washed, though. Yellowing nets :dread: . Once a year is enough... warm water and a bit of sparkle. Nets 8-) :toot: .

Most people down my road have a shutters/blind combination. I'm one of the few with nets. I don't like them but my wooden windows need replacing first, and shutters are bloody expensive too.

Nets have definitely gone out of fashion in London, as have carpets.

Used to have nets but they looked pretty granny-ish so got blinds instead.

I was debating having wooden floors in my living room as I have have them in my kitchen and bathroom, however I think it'd make the room just feel cold.

Going for this look minus the curtains and 70s carpet.

Our lounge and dining room are facing away from the street, the only room you can really see in from outside is the kids playroom, and that doesn't have anything up. Previous owners had blinds everywhere but we've taken them all down.

I'm in a flat on the second floor, so I just have the windows completely exposed and open all day, all year round . A consistent flow of fresh air agrees with me very much indeed.

Not really thought about what I'd do if I were in a house. I suppose you have to consider the security concern.

I have nets, why? Because my wife prefers nets, I don't have much choice. Mainly because I'm not fussed.

We have them in the bedrooms.

At some point I may swap to blinds but at the moment there isn't a burning need so all good.

Our living room is at the back of the house so no risk of people looking in.

Real millennials use DC-Fix Static Cling film:

http://www.createyourworldshop.co.uk/category-s/113.htm

You can buy it in B&Q.
Super easy to apply. Spray the glass wet. Slide the film into place and scalpel round the edge.
Bang. Frosted glass.

I've got it on our front door and bathroom window.
Nice and opaque but let's lots of light in.

I don't have a wanky pattern. Just plain frosted glass appearance.

And if you're a tenant, it's super easy to remove!

Ahh I see now. To put it in the context of supermarkets, I guess it goes like this?

Aldi/Lidl = nothing in the window
Tesco/Asda = nets
Sainsbury's/Waitrose = curtians
Harrods/Fortnum & Mason = who the strawberry float cares, the butler looks after the windows and the shopping
