PostWhy I don't shop at GAME (Vol.1)

Today I went looking for a ps3 - I didn't buy one in the end, but I'll get to that later - And here's why I don't shop at Game (Vol.1)

I went in the and looked at the PS3 bundles on offer, and they were gooseberry fool (Well, the 80gb+MGS4 for £309.99 was pretty good).
Anyway, I must've looked clueless because some heavily pierced pink haired student fellow wandered over in a GAME polo shirt.

I was in safe hands, I could trust his knowledge of Games, Consoles and the industry.
He would truly guide me by the hand in my time of need, and use his wisdom of gaming to help me.

Here's what happened:

  • HIM - "Hi there, do you need help with anything?"
  • ME - "Oh, yeah. I'm currently looking around for any good PS3 bundles.. what are they like here"

He then goes through the motions of explaning the bundles before saying:
  • HIM - "I personally don't like the PS3, I mean you can get all the games on the xbox for less money."

I agreed to an extent, but then replied with:
  • ME - "Aye, I'm just picking one up for the exclusives, I'm really looking forward to LBP."
  • HIM - "Well, all the PS3 exclusives are coming to the 360 anyway. Haze is coming to 360, MGS4 is coming to 360, and MGS5 is going to be exclusive to 360"

I actually Sighed and Rolleyed at this point, and resisted facepalming.
So I play along, and fuel the fire some more:
  • ME "Oh, right... I suppose the next generation of consoles'll be out within the next few years anyway..."

I could not make this next line up by the way:
  • HIM "Yeah! The next Xbox is going to be called the Xbox Zero! It might even be out next year!"

At this point I make my excuses and leave empty handed.

Employ some people who know things about games for strawberry floats sake.
It doesn't help that there's lots of new "casual" gamers coming into the market these days, and wankers like this aren't exactly going to be providing accurate advice for those without a clue.

And that is why I don't shop at Game (Vol.1)

That is shockingly bad. It's a shame, the one I used to work at was great. Everyone knew something and didn't talk utter bullshit

It's is quite worrying if you really didn't have a clue about video games and that pink headed buffon comes waddeling over to you.

Mines not that bad, they're alright. The manager is strict as strawberry float though, I've needed ID several times, something as a 15 year old I don't have (bar a passport).

This always happens, during the mid to late nineties and beyond the GAME staff always recommended the playstation and then the ps2 over the alternatives, the 360 is flavour of the generation with GAME staff it seems.

The only times i consider game is if they have some really cheap preowned deals and if they are doing decent trade ins for old games. I find the prices of their new games too high, but the staff at my local store are okay, the weekend staff seem to know nothing about games though!

Xbox Zero sounds awesome.

A console without sugar. Sounds good to me.

Reminds me of the old N64/PS1 arguments in primary school. Those Sony idiots would always make up crap.

I might post the number for the shop actually, and then you can phone up, ask for the guy with the pierced lip, and then ask him :D

I'd probably end up yelling FACEPALM! Down the blower though.

He'd go look it up on the computer and make sure it's coming to the 360. ;)

I was always taught that personal recommendations should only ever be given if asked for. But then I worked at Gamestation.

Still, that still didn't stop me steering people away from the Wii shovelware around Christmastime. One of my colleagues really annoyed me one day by selling some poor suckers a copy of Spyro over Super Mario Galaxy... on his recommendation alone. I mean... c'mon. Would you want that on Christmas?

Upon winning another retailers award this year, MCV said about GAME:

...it [the award] comes as no suprise, as GAME boast the kind of customer service and knowledgable staff that their competitors only dream of.

Hang on - someone genuinely recommended Spyro over Super Mario Galaxy?

Biggest :fp: ever.

They are that bad. the Truro manager does the same in reverse. I try to buy a 360 game he tries to sell me a PS3. I tell him I have one he tried to stop me buying the 360 game and buy a top exclusive for pS3 (like Lair) instead :fp:
