Just seems like a massive oversight to me. I'm not talking about a pack in, but it being in the OS like welcome park on the Vita. That had a relatively light amount of content, but it was a good demo of what the various bits of the system did and it had scores etc to go back for.

I think without knowing just how much content is included then it's difficult to say. Maybe they should have done something similar to what they did with Tomodachi Life on the new 3DS, that came with some kind of limited demo of it (which I've never played). Maybe stick 1/5th of the game on the console with the option to upgrade?

Because then they would only have four launch games?

I actually think it's a huge mistake that they've made such a big deal about 1-2-Switch.

People are going to think the Switch is Wii 2 - i.e for light weight, crappy party games.

Nintendo are confused. They want the Switch to appeal to everyone.

1-2-Switch is a complete waste of time and resources.

At this stage we really don't know how much content is included, there could be a lot more to it than we've currently seen.

On the basis of what we know so far though it looks extremely thin on the ground, perhaps a good showcase for certain system features but not necessarily a great game, or one with any longevity to it.

On the basis of what we've seen including it as a pack in, even if it was digital rather than physical, seems like it would have made much more sense.

I've currently got it preordered because I am intrigued by it and as a local multiplayer game / hardware showcase I hope I might get similar enjoyment as I did with Wii Sports and later, Nintendoland but I will be keeping a close eye on reviews and cancelling if it turns out there's not a lot more to it.

Depends how big (filesize) it is, although I imagine it can't be very large given it's screenless gameplay.

Genuinely don't even remember the Vita welcome thing though other than a vague recollection that I skipped through it - 1-2-Switch already looks better than that!

I think it's a case of wait and see for how much content the game has, and how good it actually is. For a game that is local multiplayer, relies on a HD rumble gimmick, and isn't played by looking at the screen, it's almost impossible to pass judgement without actually playing it. My current opinion is that it should have been a pack in though, just for demonstrating the console, but we'll see. I still think it will probably end up being a bundle pack in by Christmas.

Huh? Wouldn't any console manufacturer want their product to appeal to everyone?

The 1 2 Switch game is designed to create laughs when a few people are gathered in a living room. Most of us may well be laughing about the price... and I agree that it should be a pack-in with the console.

But it is just a small, fun title. There is a role for games that cater for the wider audience. That bigger audience is where the real money is, whether us keener gamers like it or not.

One of the comments I found interesting in the myriad coverage of 1 2 Switch is that they're going for this "you can take it to parties!" angle, however quite a few of the games like the ping pong and gunfight drawing ones require audio queues so you either have to have really quiet parties or go off into a room somewhere, defeating the entire point.

At parties, I suspect the TV would be whacked up to a loud volume. I doubt folk would play 1 2 Switch in the midst of a massive rave or anything.

Every time they've shown the game in their lifestyle pictures/promo videos it's been setup on its own as part of their "you can play it anywhere!" schtick. I doubt it has particularly loud speakers.

I'm not going to fully judge the decision to not pack it in with the system until I know just how many mini games it has. If any of them are more fleshed out. I can say I think this will prove to be a successful (from a purely enjoyment/playing perspective) party game if the Nintendo Event was anything to go buy.

Right now it seems an odd choice. I can certainly see it being something bundled in later on or being sold cheaper. But it could well be a case of milking the launch cash cow.

As someone who despises motion control, it was disappointing to see them spend so much time focusing on games that require it (namely 1, 2, Switch and ARMS). And I think they should've packed 1, 2, Switch in with the console if they were that desperate to get it out there - most people aren't going to want to pay £40 for a glorified tech-demo/load of probably-shitty minigames. Seems like something that should've been included as a way of getting people used to the controls/features, not something people have to spend £40 on.
