I don't always comment but I visit GRcade everyday to read what's going on and for the past couple of days I had an unfulfilled yearning whenever I was wasting time on the internet.
I'm glad the forum is back. :)

I think it was too subtle. Run your cursor over the post (or quote it) and you'll see other... er... things.

wat

Just to reiterate, I'm not saying this in surprise, I'm saying it in disbelief. That is way too much to host a forum.

My hosting plan has unlimited bandwidth and storage (which I don't think yours does), and matches your host's uptime, without using this shite Zeus technology that keeps failing. For £40 per year. You're paying for a business-level package, which you absolutely do not need for just a PHPBB discussion forum.

We're not paying for any of those packages, we're on a shared hosting plan which is significantly cheaper than any of those. This isn't an issue of bandwidth or storage BTW, those are both plentiful on shared hosting for a forum this size with the majority of hosts these days.

Ah, so you're saying £210 is the projected price for better hosting?

My bad, I thought you were saying words to the effect of "Time for renewal. The price is £210".

They started the polls on old GR in which people voted for how this place would work.

So nothing.

Seems odd to me people suggesting that donation=redhat would lead to a two tier system when we already have different coloured ones.

Surely, if we were to be given colour titles that we would all be blue hats? I think having Orange, blue, green plus an additional colour would be ludicrious

Well, that certainly is a questionable reasoning behind differentiating from one set of users to another, if it is true of course. An answer from one of the bluehats or admins might useful here.

That's not the reason, some were bluehatted because they had their own sites & there were fears they'd set up their own forums & split up the userbase. (as such they have to have a say in the general running of the forum so nothing on here affects their site)

Others were bluehatted because of their contributions to the old GR & ongoing contributions to this forum.

Are some people really bothered that some members have their username in a different colour? :|

That's just my take on it, it's entirely possible that Herbi is right & we were only BH because some of us created threads about the rules.

lol.

Nope. It's getting other people to do your trolling and baiting for you, by inciting them with seemingly innocent comments 8-)

I quite like the idea of donations actually. If there was some money left over after the forum running was all paid for you could maybe do a random prize draw or summat with a decent game related prize (A Coll Ed game, online voucher, Bargain new(ish) release). Only people who have contributed would be in the prize draw, therefore people who haven't donated don't lose anything and the thought of a decent prize draw may even entice them to contribute a little, even a pound donation would get an entry. Simples.

Fiver a year? Well worth it I reckon.
