I had zero interest in it, I hate motion controls in games so it really was a non starter for me. My brother had one though and I did get to play it a bunch, I could see the appeal of Wii Sports and the controls worked but the lack of precision in meant they didnt really resemble the sport on screen, case in point: you could bowl while sitting down. I have since picked up some of its better, more "hardcore", games for play on my Wii U and Ive enjoyed what I have played but what I have picked up dont use the motion controls in any meaningful way.

It has helped Nintendo build up a big cash reserve and put them on a great foot financially but it has also been a huge curse, when investors and business types look at what made the most money and why people loved the machine theyll see, Wii Sports, motion controls, Wii Fit etc but none of those things will work again, they were very much the right thing at the right time. The casual audience has moved on to mobile and tablet for their new game experiences, they wont be coming back for motion controls and Wii Sports, they already have a machine for that after all. ;)

I got a good deal on one, buying from a former GR member, but I spent more time playing Mega Drive games on it than Wii games. I've never been a Nintendo fan so a lot of the exclusives never really appealed, but I was lucky enough to play Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, spoiled slightly for me by the controls, which was...well, the console's point. I liked that Dead Space game and Excitetruck (sp?) as well.

Started with Twilight Princess, ended on Skyward Sword, and because I never owned a gamecube it also meant I got to play Wind Waker, Four Swords Adventures and Majora's Mask (on the collector's edition disc). What the hell isn't to love.

I absolutely loved my Wii and have a fairly large selection of games for it. The aforementioned Zeldas and Mario Galaxy are the big Nintendo exclusives that everyone knows about, but I also loved playing much lesser known games like Klonoa, LostWinds and (pirated at a friend's because there was no European release) Dokapon Kingdom. Then there were other fantastic games like The Last Story, No More Heroes, Resident Evil 4 (the best version of the game from what I can gather), House of the Dead: Overkill... and plenty more.

No More Heroes, still the best example of motion controls for that beam katana recharging and listening to the phone conversations.

I pre-ordered one whilst I was at uni from Amazon when they got one of their really limited batches in. They were there for about 10 minutes before they'd all been taken so I was lucky to grab one. Then I decided I'd change the delivery address to go home instead of to my student accommodation (so I wasn't tempted to play it before Christmas as I had work to do) and it turns out Amazon re-submits your order when you do this so my Wii went to the next person in the queue and I lost it =/

Turned out to be a good thing in the end as I had practically no money when I went back to uni after that Christmas and my flatmate managed to nab one so I played a few games with him on his. I bought Twilight Princess on the GC as I wanted the "proper" version so I wasn't too bothered. Then there was the massive software drought and the rest of uni and I didn't bother getting one.

Fast forward to Christmas 2010 and I finally went ahead and convinced my girlfriend at the time to buy me a Wii. Got one of the red Mario 25th Anniversary ones with Donkey Kong Country Returns. Such a great machine, and by that time there was a good back catalogue of games to get through. Mario Galaxy 1+2 are definitely two of the best games I've ever played, I personally really liked Mario Kart Wii and racked up tonnes of hours with friends on that (even more so down the line with the Custom Cup mods) and I also put a lot of time into Wii Sport Resort's Frisbee Golf game before many a night out. Another notable mention goes to The Last Story. Even the online mode offered hours of fun.

I've still got it set up but it doesn't get quite as much use since getting my U. As I soft modded it, I was using it for a lot of media playback before I got a bigger monitor for my PC, and I still bust out the GC game on it now and again too. Due to the time of my life it came out I probably never gave it quite as much love as my N64 or GC, but I thought all in all it was a brilliant little box and the right thing at the right time for Nintendo, just a shame they couldn't manage to keep up that momentum, though I suppose they could've gone even more "casual" if they had. Definitely left them in a difficult spot, but the Wii U's first party output has been enough for my limited gaming time.

There are still better ways to play backwards compatible games that don't involve piracy. I used my Wii to dump my GameCube discs and I can play them on my Wii U using Nintendont or my PC using Dolphin. Thanks to Nintendont and the GameCube controller adapter, the Wii U has rendered my Wii nearly obsolete. The Wii really only gets used if I need to dump more GameCube discs.

Really enjoyed Lost Winds 1+2. Wish they had made a third. Also enjoyed the Boom Boxes, HOTD and Deep Space Extraction. Here is my list of some of the games I enjoyed enough to keep (in no particular order):

Metroid Prime Trilogy
Tenchu Shadow Assassins
No More Heroes 1 +2
Okami
Resident Evil 4
Little King's Story
Fragile Dreams
Muramasa, the Demon Blade
EA Sports - Grand Slam Tennis
Super Mario Galaxy 1+2

Project Zero 2 and 4
Wii SportS and WiiSports Resort
Wii Fit and WiiFit plus

Should have kept Rockstar's Table Tennis Game, Silent Hill SM

I never got to play some of the games you mentioned there still. Muramasa and Project Zero 2 being the ones that I was most interested by but never got around to getting.

And how did I forget Resi 4 Wii edition and Okami? Amazing games.

I bought this a couple of weeks ago, it's been one of those games I have wanted pretty much from release but didn't get at the time, and then I have never seen it preowned. So when I did, I sure did buy it straight away.

Not played it yet tho

I got one with twilight princess, about a week after launch if i remember correctly. I got it online from woolworths, and the postman left the package in the lobby so anyone in my block could have taken it.

My initial impressions were that it played a solid zelda game. I wasnt a fan of the waggle. it was an un-needed novelty that didnt work in that game, and what i found out, in most of the wiis later games. Mario galaxy is very over rated. I always felt the levels where abit too 'short'. There was never any depth to them - it was like the british gas advert, And that was gooseberry fool. Mario kart was ok, but again another game that had a needless waggle to it. Such a shame that motion controls where shoehorned into a needless waggle in most games.
Wii sports was the best thing about it. Its seeming simplicity had a relaxing nature about it. Its unfortunate that the systems best game was its tech demo.

Can someone please explain just what they mean when they say 'waggle'

Waving a controller around in mid-air like a complete idiot trying to get Mario to jump...something which should just require the press of one button...!

As a huge fan of the Gamecube I hated the Wii. It was a completely different philosophy to it's predecessor and I can see why Nintendo went down that route but for me as a gamer it was a massive disappointment.

Mario does jump with the press of a button.

noun: wag·gle \ˈwa-gəl\

A derogatory term used to describe the use of unnecessary motion controls in video games. Notable examples often cited are Donkey Kong Country Returns and The Legend Of Zelda Skyward Sword.

I personally have no problem with waggle in Super Mario Galaxy but it's bit annoying in New Super Mario Bros Wii.

But it's not bad as Donkey Kong Country Returns. strawberry float hell, shaking the remote to be able to roll is pretty daft when it's one of most used abilities in the game. Glad there's no shaking in its 3DS version nor in its sequel, Tropical Freeze.

Anyway! While in Wii's generation, I didn't play it much as I do with my Xbox 360 - I was hugely into 360 scene at time, but I still loved my Wii, I got my Wii on my 21st birthday, while I didn't play much of it on a day as I went to pub night out with my mates, it did make up great day after to help me cope with my hangover :slol: It houses lot of excellent games that I wouldn't be able to play on anywhere (other than PC, if I feel like that way) and Virtual Console was also really amazing.

Then Super Smash Bros. Brawl came, and it actually lead to making new friends online which I still talk to. Sure, we've boneded but it was Brawl that made us want to stay in touch so we can battle with each other.

Honestly Super Mario Galaxy is one of most prettiest game, and I think it looks much better than most of 360/PS3 games and it was on SD console. Of course, it being SD console did annoy me a bit because of jaggies on my TV, yeah yeah I'm pretty picky but it just bothers me when it's not "smooth". Thankfully it's not too bad via Wii U's Wii channel so I now play my Wii games on that, but yeah I think I put off playing some of games because they look worse on HDTV than others on Wii system itself.

Wii, while not one of my favourite Nintendo consoles, it's still very good console and I'm really glad I have my system to enjoy the games I wouldn't find on PS3/360.

Motion controls in DKCR didn't bother me at all. It worked fine for me, didn't find it terribly inaccurate or anything. No reason it couldn't have been a button though.

I actually finished that game, unlike Tropical Freeze.

I just feel it's unnecessary, granted Super Mario Galaxy's spin jump waggle is unnecessary as well (in my opinion) but I didn't mind it in Super Mario Galaxy too much because unlike DKCR you don't overuse it in succession (well apart from times I try to save myself even if it won't work  ).

Would rather simple button press for rolling honestly.
