Yeah the simple stuff runs flawlessly from everything I've tried so far.

The rest is really dependant on the emulator you use for them. The N64 emu I use (Whose name I forget just now) is pretty decent and stuff like Goldeneye is very playable. PS1 runs perfectly (More or less) using EPSX (FPSE is good as well from what I've heard) and I've not tried Saturn yet. PPSSPP works great for some of the less demanding games. Ridge Racers runs at full speed with the resolution set to the PSP Native resolution.

It's definitely a great bit of kit. Needs a little fiddling with (I installed a custom ROM to replace the stock one which has Chinese bloatware on it) but once you get going it's brilliant. Plus it plays android games as well, so I've got GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas running natively on it.

Awesome thanks for the feedback. I will have a serious think about picking one up.

On a separate note, I found a complete ROM set for N64 games. Downloaded it and started unpacking it, turns out it was double compressed and for good reason. Total size is going to be upwards of 300gb! Looking further into it I found they've included US, EU, J versions and any ROM hack/translation versions so each game has 4 to 20 versions of itself!

My laptop has a 250gb solid state... I ran out of space at 45gb lol. I got an external drive somewhere...

I was tempted by it but I just upgraded my phone to an s9+ and it can do hdmi out so I think I'll use that cash on a big micro SD card instead. I already have a phone case with a kick stand and an 8bitdo pad for if I'm traveling.

I considered doing that once I upgrade in a couple of months, would dedicate my current phone as an emulation machine but as I got a Huawei P10 it doesn't support hdmi out! :( it's a shame as it runs everything I want flawlessly. Would be great as a handheld N64/PS1 but I loose the main thing I want... A retro Switch essentially.

Just dropped about £180 on a refurbed Dell Optiplex 3020 and an Nvidia GT 1030 based on this video.

It outspecs my old PC which is my current "TV PC" and should comfortably run emulation up to and including PS2/GC/Wii and Citra (Don't know about Cemu yet) as well as PC games that my old system can't handle.
Plus it's substantially smaller so I can feasibly pick it up and take it with me whenever I go somewhere.

Think I'll respec the old one for my fiancee's kid and see if he can get any use out of it.

Oh and ETA Prime (The youtuber who made the video) does some fantastic emulation videos. Very informative and especially on the Launchbox channel, his tutorials are excellent.

Downloading some 3DO games just now and giving them a shot. Some alright stuff in amongst the trash.

The port of Doom is absolutely honkin though. Seriously bad.

Bahaha yeah it's a bit of a notorious mess,

Doom Wiki wrote:Pre-production on the 3DO version began when Art Data Interactive purchased console rights to Doom for a large sum of money, but without a staff to actually develop the port, Art Data's CEO shopped around for a team. The project eventually wound up with Rebecca "Burger Becky" Heineman at Logicware, who had already impressed Art Data with her 3DO port of Wolfenstein 3D, and who Art Data assured the project was already well underway and just needed some fine tuning. Heineman would then find that virtually no work had actually been done on the project, and that the CEO of Art Data had grossly underestimated how much work it would actually take to develop the game, boasting about brand new levels, enemies and weapons in the press when all he had was mock-up art assets. With no support from Art Data, Heineman acquired the PC and Jaguar source code for Doom straight from id Software and created a quick-and-dirty conversion in just ten weeks.[1]

Full-motion video cutscenes were also planned to take advantage of the 3DO's media streaming capabilities and increased CD-ROM storage medium, but these never came to pass.[2] In its stead the 3DO port features a newly remixed soundtrack, created to replace the Jaguar-specific audio drivers that Heineman was unable to port, and recorded by a band that Art Data's CEO was a part of.

Good lord the soundtrack though

Yeah the music's not bad actually. Not a patch on the PC original (Dat MIDI sound :datass: ) but decent enough. The frame rate is all over the place in the game though. It's nearly impossible to aim at anything. I ran out of ammo on the first level against just four grunts and two Imps. :fp: It clearly was a quick and dirty port and to be fair, if that was ten weeks worth of work it's better than I would have expected.

Strangely enough I just tried the Wolfenstein 3D port and it's genuinly fantastic. Really smooth, nice textures and not a frame drop in sight. It's a shame as I imagine Doom would have ran much better if the team had a proper amount of time to port it.

I think the 32x version of doom was one of my most played games, I absolutely loved it (I'd never seen or played another version of it). It wasn't until a mate got the PlayStation version that I realised what it was missing.

God I loved the PlayStation one, hundreds of hours pit in to that in link up mode. 2 tvs back to back deathmatching in my mate's mum's living room

I thought it was the 3DO that was great gameplay/visuals wise, but didn't have music. I guess not

Halo 3 finally goes in-game on Xenia!!!

Tried it out myself yesterday, graphics are still glitchy and the game dies once plasma effects start. But its in-game and making progress

With ROMS not as easy to come by these days I was wondering what reliable sources are there for ROMs and ISOs now? I have complete ROM sets for GBA and N64 and a large list of GB and GBC ROMs stored on backup hard drives and cloud storage. Looking for other systems to add to my library.

Can't watch the video at work but how are they getting on? Do they run at a playable level or are we still talking low frame-rates?

I'm guessing it'll run XBLA stuff eventually, I'd love to play Hexic HD again without having to set up my 360.

Also the emulator almost shares its name with my sister

It already does play some XBLA stuff. I had Castle Crashers and Scott Pilgrim running on mine a month or two ago. Need to figure out how to "unlock" the full games though as it defaults to the trial versions.

Sadly not, Its only the short version of her name that is similar to the name of the character.

My name is equally uncommon but at least no-one forgets it I suppose.
