Sadly not, Its only the short version of her name that is similar to the name of the character.

My name is equally uncommon but at least no-one forgets it I suppose.

I hope it's actually Ironhide.

hugh teens-low 20s for FPS, graphical glitches abound, and it dies on its arse once plasma fire starts shooting. But, its in-game!

Sounds like a good start. Hopefully we'll see the improvements picking up the pace shortly and we can get something more suited to actually playing them properly soon.

On a related note RPCS3 has had an update recently adding asynchronous shader compilation. Upside is that games are now playable without first building up the shader cache slowly. So they've fixed the one big issue I had with it and I'm looking forward to delving into the working games some more quite soon.

I always wondered why they struggled getting 360 to work but I'd always presumed it was CISC for some reason. Didn't realise it used a RISC design until looking on Wikipedia a minute ago.

So my Optiplex 3020 arrived yesterday. Not a bad wee PC.

Got an i3 4150 (3.50Ghz), 4Gb RAM and I've swapped in the 1tb drive from my old PC. Still waiting on my GTX 1030 arriving (Tomorrow hopefully). Runs all the emulators you would expect so far, but I'm mostly impressed that it can handle Citra really well and I had F-Zero GX on Dolphin running at between 40-60fps. That's just using the built in Intel Graphics and Software rendering modes so I'm expecting a significant improvement to that once I can offload all the graphics rendering to a dedicated card.

Not tried PS2 yet but that'll wait until I have the new card for it.

So I've been spending the time getting Launchbox set up and all my ROMS ready to go. Gonna check out some of my Steam Games as well and see how well it handles stuff like GTA V. Might even try out FIFA 19, but I'm wary about having too many background processes going on (Origin :x ). It's only a dual core chip and the RAM is quite low, but both of them are upgradable down the line.

All in it's a fantastic bit of kit for around £190.

EDIT: I might try out Cemu and RPCS3 with it, but I'm not expecting it to be able to run them very well (If at all). Would be insane if it could handle BOTW and Demon's Souls though. :D

Try PPSSPP, it'll run on pretty much anything so you should get decent results from it when you stick the 1030 in.

Yeah I gave that a shot the other day and while the framerate was dipping on Ridge Racers, it was still mostly playable. Was hoping the card would come today as I'm out most of the weekend, so it'll be Sunday night at the earliest before I get to play with it.

So this is pretty neat, a retranslation hack of PSIV just got released today:

ROMhacking Page

Phantasy Star Generation:4 is both a relocalization and retranslation of the original English script and proper nouns (weapons, monsters, names, etc.)

Its primary goal: restore every mistranslated connection to the other PS games, to and ensure the main story & series themes best match the original Japanese.

Its secondary goal: make the game’s script more colloquial, fun, and emotional, from NPCs to key story moments.

...

There are two versions of the patch:

“Generation 4″ best matches the SEGA AGES English translations as well as the original Japanese PSIV, and has a few additional upgrades (vivify’s Proper Caser mod, some name changes, etc.). This one is recommended for both new players and longtime PS fans.

The other best matches the original SEGA Master System/Genesis/Mega Drive English translations in terms of classic enemy names, magic, and ALL CAPS text, made for posterity.

Can't speak to its quality but I'd be super curious to try this! PSIV has been on my to do list for a while. From the little I played the official localisation did strike me as stilted, sadly the case for many non-Earthbound RPGs of the time.

I've played it several times over the years and despite really liking it, have never actually finished it.

I'd love to see a new non MMO Phantasy Star game, with turn based combat and possibly the first person dungeons from the Master System games.

Bahaha yeah it's a bit of a notorious mess,

Doom Wiki wrote:Pre-production on the 3DO version began when Art Data Interactive purchased console rights to Doom for a large sum of money, but without a staff to actually develop the port, Art Data's CEO shopped around for a team. The project eventually wound up with Rebecca "Burger Becky" Heineman at Logicware, who had already impressed Art Data with her 3DO port of Wolfenstein 3D, and who Art Data assured the project was already well underway and just needed some fine tuning. Heineman would then find that virtually no work had actually been done on the project, and that the CEO of Art Data had grossly underestimated how much work it would actually take to develop the game, boasting about brand new levels, enemies and weapons in the press when all he had was mock-up art assets. With no support from Art Data, Heineman acquired the PC and Jaguar source code for Doom straight from id Software and created a quick-and-dirty conversion in just ten weeks.[1]

Full-motion video cutscenes were also planned to take advantage of the 3DO's media streaming capabilities and increased CD-ROM storage medium, but these never came to pass.[2] In its stead the 3DO port features a newly remixed soundtrack, created to replace the Jaguar-specific audio drivers that Heineman was unable to port, and recorded by a band that Art Data's CEO was a part of.

Good lord the soundtrack though

Yeah the music's not bad actually. Not a patch on the PC original (Dat MIDI sound :datass: ) but decent enough.

DFRetro did a feature on Doom ports and turns out that 3DO soundtrack was actually recorded by the CEO's band in 2 weeks.

Yeah I've seen that video. Really interesting. My favourite part is that the Saturn version should have been amazing and 60fps, but Carmack insisted on them doing it a certain way that meant it ran like gooseberry fool.

But the 3DO soundtrack is the only good thing about that port.

So I'm almost done with my budget PC build. Lots of annoying problems that I've had to deal with, but managed to overcome them all (Mostly).

First of all was Windows 10 giving me a Code 43 error for the GT 1030 once I installed it. No idea what was causing it. Updated all the drivers, removed and reinserted the card. Wiped the OS and started from scratch. Nothing I tried worked. In the end I went back to Windows 7, where it's working with no issues at all.

So the card works nicely for now. Mostly I'm impressed by the performance on GC, Wii and PS2 games. They're not perfect and there's some level of tweaking required to get the best from them (PS2 especially will need per-game configs set up), but it's very nice.

Citra works wonderfully too. Was sitting playing Metroid at 4x the native resolution and it's glorious. It would be nice if they had a way to "cast" the touch screen to a second device (Like a mobile or tablet) so I could have that on my lap and be able to properly fullscreen it.

There's lots of little tweaks to the set up I need to perform, with more games to add and other quality of life stuff, but it's mostly done now.

I can see myself wanting to upgrade it a little bit down the line. The hard-drive that Windows and Launchbox/Retroarch is running on is about ten years old and I'm not sure how much longer it's got left in it so I'm hoping to pop in an SSD for the OS and applications.
That should also help with my main issue with Launchbox/Bigbox. It's just too slow on this system to do all the cool interface stuff shown in the video I posted. This is partly down to the low RAM (Only 4Gb DDR3) but the HDD can't be doing it any favours. Luckily I've got a low-performance Theme for BigBox that makes it smoother, but it's not as glorious as I'd like.

Last replay I did of OOT was using the HD Texture pack and it was phenomenal. Will follow this I think.

Ah man that's marvelous, much respect to the guy. I tend to be fussy on texture packs due to how far a deviation they can be, super commendable how this pack strives to be as authentic as possible, even referring to promotional art and such. As he says it's a tough balancing act of adding detail that was never there while still being faithful, from the clips shown he's walked that tight rope remarkably well

Love the reshade enhancements too, ambient occlusion can do wonders for adding depth to scenes.

Not able to watch the vid as I'm at work, but how does it compare to something like the 3DS version running through Citra? To be honest I'm more likely to go back to them than an HD'd up N64 version.

Compares very favourably! Obviously not much can be done about the increased geometry from the 3DS remake but the increased detail does wonders. He even gave an example of taking a texture from the 3DS version where appropriate.

Funnily enough he also has this video on his channel:

Something I hadn't gotten round to watching until now...only played a bit of the 3DS remake (I'd only just gone through MM on US Wii VC a few months prior) so I had no idea how drastic and George Lucasy some of its changes were...drastically decreasing the fluidity of deku water skimming and Zora swimming are especially egregious :dread:

Saw that vid a while back. Worse change by far for me was the Stone Temple boss. It's amazingly badly thought-out and is noticeably amateurish in its design compared to other Zelda bosses. Zora swimming changes kind of sucked but it's compounded by the lack of magic bottle drops in an area where you need them, a problem which was probably in the original. The other changes I can take or leave, or improve the game.

The problem with playing MM on Citra is that the text doesn't scale up properly (fixable with mods I guess) so looks pixelated. And the fancy new character models kind of clash a bit more with the relatively less well-textured environment at high res. Also it's not widescreen, unless there's a mod for that too.

edit: spelling error

Been playing For the Frog the Bell Tolls on Retroarch via Same Boy. Good game, the combat is different to anything I've played, but I like it.

The combat is definitely a bit weird at first. It's an odd little gem that I want to get back to. Might stick it on my GPD actually.
