Something I hadn't gotten round to watching until now...only played a bit of the 3DS remake (I'd only just gone through MM on US Wii VC a few months prior) so I had no idea how drastic and George Lucasy some of its changes were...drastically decreasing the fluidity of deku water skimming and Zora swimming are especially egregious :dread:

I will concede two points on this: The Zora swimming, and the Twinmold fight. Both were piles of gooseberry fool that were much better in the original.

On every other point, this guy is full of gooseberry fool. The Deku skimming was admittedly different, but nowhere near the travesty he claims. Spinning to gain speed still works, he just refuses to do it in that 'race' to fabricate a point.

I can't believe how much time he dedicated to complaining about changes that make a brilliant game more accessible to a wider audience, on the grounds that it ruins the """challenge""". The save system in the original was strawberry floating garbage. Permanent saves being tied to resetting time benefits nobody. And of course they let you save more often, it's on a handheld, it's specifically designed for shorter play sessions on the go.

The glowing iceberg spots help younger players know where to go. They might spoil the locations of a few secrets, but let's face it, the original stray fairy searches were just obtuse. I don't know anyone who didn't just read a walkthrough for them anyway.

The bosses may have been simplified, and the Captain Keeta fight is definitely much easier, but again, what exactly is the problem with making the game more accessible?

Honestly, it sounds like this guy is just salty because filthy casuals watered down his dick-swinging contest.

I know I did, some of them were a right pain.

I was about 11, mind you.

I think I was like 15 or so when I first played it, though, I'm sure I was way late to the Party.

To be fair he acknowledges that this game wasn't really made for him at the end of the video and that it's good for people who first get in to it.

I think the new saving system is mostly better but it does change the nature of the game somewhat, and might be a reason why people would prefer the original. The pressure to get so much done in a certain amount of time was part of the original challenge/fun. With permanent saves you can just reset the game and go back to them if you feel like you haven't spent your time effectively. Also not sure about the handheld console equals needing more flexible saves thing - if you're playing on TV you're more likely to be sharing it and get kicked off at some point, especially if you're young and have siblings. And you can put handhelds on sleep and go back to them later if you really need to.

I didn't like the glowing ice spots either. Grezzo changed so much about MM3D, so why not add in a section that hints at ice arrows being useable in that way. iirc correctly from my playthrough and that video (which I haven't rewatched recently), you can't use ice arrows on a normal body of water. That's pretty lame. There are also sheikah stones that tell you what to do, so I don't see why they need to make using ice arrows so obvious for everyone.

I'm with Pedz on fairies here. I didn't use a guide for them and I didn't know people had trouble with them. You get a mask which tells you if they're in the room.

Otherwise I agree with you on the bosses and what the absolute worse changes were. I didn't think the change to Deku hopping was a big deal either.

Yeah, I see your point on the saves. I've definitely been kicked off the big telly in favour of Corrie a fair few times in my youth. The original did have temporary saves at the owl statues, which were erased on resuming, but I don't understand how making those saves permanent affects the feel of the game, when you can achieve the same effect on the N64 by just saving at one again.

I think you might be right about the ice arrows, too. There are definitely better ways it could have been handled, like with extra hints from Tatl. Or, as you said, with the Sheikah stones.

Even with all it's flaws, I think I still prefer the remake.

I thought I would let you guys know that I fired up my old hacked Xbox which has a gooseberry fool tonne of NES, SNES, MD and Spectrum ROMs, and even some MSX games.

Seeing as it was done around 2004 there might be some stuff in there that got lost on the Internet. Including some strawberry floating weird stuff like a port of Sonic 1 on NES and a homebrew version of Mario World on MegaDrive (both of which are surprisingly good), amongst other weird gooseberry fool. Some of them split into regions too so 60Hz versions and different translations.

Edit: I also have some Xbox games too of course.

Added the Pokemon Crystal Clear romhack to the drive, for those who may be interested. Found through the Hacks & Translations folder and then in the GB/C folder. (Open-world version of Crystal with additional features detailed here). 'Beta 2.0' release which was the latest one I could find. Don't know if there are newer ones.

Pedz wrote:.

Edit:

I found the source of any future versions of Crystal Clear. From this discord: https://discordapp.com/invite/xmTXhtV
Just accept the invite for this discord and find the downloads in the development section - note, just for the patch to turn the Crystal rom (1.1 version) into Crystal Clear.

I've provided the 1.1 version of Pokémon Crystal to the drive too if anyone wants it. It'll be useful to keep a hold of for future Crystal Clear patches since the game is still being developed further.

That looks really cool, even though I have the original game. How much does a GBA flash cart go for these days? It would be nice to play it on GameBoy player or I'm sure it would just run on a Raspberry Pi Model 1.

EZ Flash carts go for around £30. There's the Everdrive X5 if you want better compatibility and longer battery life, but that'll set you back a cool hundo.

The EZ Flash Omega is about the best Flash cart for gba at the moment. Comes in between 30 and 40. No compatibility issues. I've had mine for about 2 months about its awesome never had any issues. It also has a built in nes emulator if you're into that too!

Also how do I find Pokemon Crystal Clear hack? Is there a communal cloud drive you guys have to share?

So more out of curiosity than anything else I tried Citra and RPCS3 with the budget emulation rig that I've been banging on about.

RPCS3 barely loads Demon's Souls and crashes constantly. Not unexpected though.

Cemu is a revelation however. Mario 3D World runs flawlessly, Super Mario Maker as well. Full 60fps in most cases.
Currently working through the rest of my games and after some tweaking I'll be putting BOTW through it's paces. If it can handle that then I'm going to be extremely impressed with this.

Nice. I'll check that out at some point I think.

Was so happy to see this, N64 emu has needed a shot in the arm for a good while now.

I'm hoping Dreamcast and PS2 both get similar major improvements one day
