So I've briefly played with some emulators since getting my new system and it's delightful seeing games that made my old PC cry, being ground into the dirt under the sheer grunt.

Dolphin looks even lovelier now that Wii games aren't cripplingly slow.

Also gave RPCS3 a quick go and booted up Demon's Souls. Very impressive, though there's definitely scope for me to tweak it and get it looking even better. My only issue is the "Compiling Shaders" message all the time that utterly tanks the frame rate. I understand that this only happens the first time though so it should be less pronounced as it compiles more of them.

New PC aside I'm looking forward to converting my old machine into a Retro PC for the living room. Should be able to comfortably play any PC games up to about three years ago and Dreamcast, PSP and N64 emulation is a walk in the park for it. PS2 was always a mixed bag on it, but I'm gonna do what I can with it.

If your system can handle those emulators then PS2 emulation should be fine. It's pretty good now (and I think has been for a while but I'm not too clued up on its history).

So Cemu is a work of art.

Super Mario Maker on my PC.

I'm in heaven. Or I would be if the online functionality worked. Hope they find a way around it so you can access uploaded levels in the game rather than having to hack the save games to play levels made on the Cemu version.

Mario Kart 8 also runs ridiculously well (At least after it's compiled all the shaders for a course).

Still playing around with it to get BOTW and a few other games to work but damn this is impressive stuff.

This encouraged me to try it again! Been trying out Bayonetta 2 which looks amazing in 4k, plus you can overclock emulated CPU in CEMU options so it runs better than on Wii U

Only thing though...CEMU's unstable as hell for me, it crashes all the time, with or without the CPU overclock D: Has it done the same for you at all?

I've only had one or two times where Cemu's locked up so far.

I've not tweaked any settings or anything yet though so it's mostly running on the defaults. It's ridiculously impressive.

Today I have been playing Wii Rock Band, on a PC, with a Guitar Hero guitar and a 360 Drum set.

Emulation is magical.

Picked up a couple of accessories that have made things much more authentic as well.

Got a Mayflash Sensor Bar for Dolphin. Wiimotes sync directly with it as well so I've been playing Wii Sports in HD.

Also got an N64 pad adapter too so I've been getting used to that as well.

I played DJ hero on dolphin using a real 360 turntable, but then i just rebought a 360 and the games for real. Still pretty rad though.

Apparently crashing in Bayonetta 2 isn't uncommon. The game isn't super playable yet. Was having a few issues with it myself when I tried it a few versions back.

However with anything else I've tried - mainly BotW - it's been without much of a hitch. Not one crash - well, not one I haven't effectively forced by switching between CEMU or another program or something.

I haven't been following CEMU too closely lately or using it at all, but apparently Tokyo Mirage Sessions went from being completely unplayable to running almost perfectly recently.

And in other news the Switch emulators have been making a lot of progress. Apparently Sonic Mania became fully playable a week or so ago, at double the speed on Ryujinx. Games like Odyssey and Splatoon 2 are booting up too but the emulators don't have 3D renderers yet.

Ah cheers for heads up, aye that would add up. Need to get round to ripping more games, thing is I haven't homebrewed Wii U properly so I have to use the web browser exploit...which has like a 1/4 success rate of not crashing :simper:

That's bonkers on the Switch emulator!

Want to try RPCS3 to play Everybody's Golf World Tour (I own a copy but have no means of ripping it to PC) but I have no idea where to acquire said game iso.

If someone could point me in the right direction via PM I would be extremely grateful.

I've been playing with some MSU-1 hacks for SNES games and it's an absolute revelation.

MSU-1 (Media Streaming Unit) is basically a "fictional" enhancement chip for the SNES. In the same way the Super FX and Super FX2 chips added additional functionalilty to SNES games, so does MSU-1.
It allows games to utilise CD quality audio as well as video into games.

It runs on a couple of SNES emulators and (Crazily enough) the original hardware using the SD2SNES adapter and basically shows what a SNES CD-ROM addon might have looked like.

Obviously as these are fan-hacks, quality and choice of music used will vary from game to game, but I'm blown away by how cool some of this stuff is.

Yeah the Mega Man X one is pretty sweet.

I've got one that replaces the music in F-Zero with the music from F-Zero X and another for Aladdin that adds in the music from the movie, though that one doesn't really work for me. Doesn't really fit the gameplay.

Some of the games are huge though.
Anyone wants a link to the pre-patched ROMS and necessary files can PM me.

Yeah MSU-1 is super neat, really got to do a playthrough with one sometime. It's a neat insight to what the SNES CD may have given us

The pack I downloaded had loads. One is a remix of Super Metroid called "Project Base" which seems to change things up a bit so I've started playing that.

Can't get RPCS3 to run at a playable framerate, even at a 720p resolution.

My GPU is a 1060GTX so I'm assuming its the game I'm trying to play that isn't fully emulated yet.

Yeah your GPU is more than good enough for any PS3 game.

The issue could be your CPU isn't powerful enough. The emulator isn't quite there in managing it optimally yet, but it will get there in time. After all, CEMU, a more developed emulator and one for a more powerful console can play most games well on my rig despite my somewhat weak CPU.

With my i3 processor I can only run Persona 5 at an average of 15fps (with a similar GPU you have), whereas people with an i7 or even an i5 can run it pretty much perfectly.

Ofc it might be a more game-specific problem as well.

So where are people getting their ISO files from anyway?

My CPU is an i5 so it must be the emulator itself, the game in question is Everybody's Golf World Tour which seems to run fine until you go to tee off and the framerate drops into single figures and eventually freezes entirely.

Tried Disgaea 3 too but I seem to have downloaded a corrupted ISO which doesn't work.

Are there any functional 360 emulators out there? Had a quick look but the ones that I could see play maybe 5 games really badly...
