If anyone on iPhone or iPad wants to get in on the action I would thoroughly recommend https://web.skyemu.app/ bookmarked to your home screen as a GBA/GBC/DS emulator. It runs as a low-level progressive web app and works completely offline. As a PWA it’s perfectly safe with no jailbreak or hacking required.

Yuzu dead

The question now is whether Nintendo's decisive win here will lead to lawsuits against other emulators, including Yuzu competitor Ryujinx. Because Nintendo and Yuzu settled before going to trial, the decision has no legal repercussions for how future court cases would rule on emulation and whether it violates the DMCA. But the settlement may set in motion a series of suits against other emulators that can't bear the cost of a drawn-out legal fight with a billion-dollar company

Time to update all your emulators just in case.

Yuzu (And to a lesser extent Ryujinx) were always playing with fire by emulating Nintendo's current money-maker.

No big deal. Switch emulation might take a hit for a while but it'll recover.

The real casualty is Citra which was from the same devs. Apparently they took it down at the same time. I'm not aware of any alternative 3DS emulator at the moment.

There’s two other 3DS emulators I think one is called panda3ds?

I’m sure I read somewhere this is all because when totk leaked yuzu had Zelda specific patches behind their patreon which would be an easy court win for Nintendo because they were profiting and encouraging mass piracy of an unreleased product. This wasn’t necessarily about the ethics of open source emulation they just got greedy and it backfired.

So hopefully on that basis ryujinx is going to keep on going.

Delta emulator is now available legitimately on the Apple App Store (free)! Emulates NES to N64, plus Mega Drive.

It's meant to be pretty polished, having been in development for years. The on-screen buttons change layout and appearance to match the system being emulated. It also supports Bluetooth controllers.

Just tried it with Super Metroid. Very slick.

Not really one for emulating games, but is this available on Mac OS as well? Or just iOS? Also, idiots guide how to get it/make it work? Asking for a friend.... :shifty:

It's not verified for Mac, but I just tried it and it basically runs in an iPhone-shaped window (though you can full-screen it).

I'm no emu-expert, but this one's dead simple. Just download your ROMs from *somewhere*, then press the + in Delta and tell it where you've put them. That's all I had to do to get Super Metroid running perfectly.

Do I need to download anything else? Just searched "Delta Emulator" into both my respective iPhone and Mac stores and nothing shows up?

Haha, the EU put pressure on them to open up, so they finally have. Got to admit, it's going to be convenient to have a legit emulator on my phone.

It does GBA and DS too.

Well, if it does GBA and DS, that means gen 1-4 of Pokemon while Nintendo get their act together and release them on the Switch eshop.

Not strictly an emulation thing but felt like this was probably the most logical thread to drop it in:

I've been checking out OpenGOAL a project which has been working on decompiling and re-implementing native ports of the Jak & Daxter trilogy from the PS2 era. It's still a work in progress but the first game is largely complete and playable and it's a really great way to revisit the game! Much better than the slightly crap emulated version available on PS4/5. Higher resolutions, solid 60fps, multiple widescreen options, quality of life improvements etc.

Nice video about how to get it setup and extract the required files from your DVD copies of the games:

The project also supports mods, I've not really looked into that side of things yet but as far as I can tell people have even got as far as making custom levels to insert into the game!

Basically if you're a Jak fan it's very much worth checking out! :toot:

The iOS version of that emulator seems to work better than the iPhone app on a Mac version, got Heart Gold running on the Mac, but Fire Red and Emerald won’t go past the faded screen before the respective professor shows up on screen, also the GBA games had no volume on the Mac, but both did on my iPhone. Played about half an hour of Heart Gold. Still would prefer them on the Switch, plying them on a Mac or iPhone just doesn’t feel the same, as daft as that probably sounds.

It rarely does. Get something like a miyoo mini plus (currently £50 at some places) and it feels like playing the real thing.

This has been my problem when I’ve dabbled with them in the past, how does it work on one of those for loading the ROMs on? Put the micro SD card into your PC/Mac and transfer then across to boot on the device?

Yes exactly that. On the device you toggle which emulators you want active, and on the SD card you just drop the roms in the clearly marked folders.
