I think he makes a valid point, if only because nintendo's stance is so utterly draconian. They state on their website that the machines used for copying games are illegal on the basis of their very function! Well, what about vhs, cd, DVD and blue ray recorders? What about sky boxes? Or do videogames enjoy some special status above and beyond other electronic media?

Didn't it turn out that games on the Virtual console were just ROMs despite Nintendo protesting to the contrary? In fact there was a post here recently suggesting something similar.

I hate to sound entitled but I have owned multiple copies of many Nintendo classics starting with owning actual cartridges through to buying titles from sometimes 2 different online stores which is shady operating at best. Nintendo etc have had my money several times over already, so who exactly am I hurting by playing some of their games on my computer?

Can't tell if you're being serious or just channelling the IT Crowd.

Nintendo themselves pirate their own games. They got caught out downloading a ROM from a website and uploading it to the VC for sale not long ago.

Probably a long shot since googling this predictably brings up zero results. But has anyone had any problems playing Sega Mega CD games on OpenEmu on Mac? Trying to play Snatcher and when I click on the rom it boots up but I get this:

EDIT: hmmm it might just be a dodgy rom because Sonic CD works fine. I'll try downloading it somewhere else.

Have tried a proper iso rather than a cut down rom?

Would anyone happen to know if you can get a Mega Drive style controller that I could plug into my laptop to play SEGA roms through Kega Fusion? I'm loving having all the old games available to me but not too impressed with having to use a keyboard.

I think you can get USB Saturn controllers on Ebay, they're virtually the same layout as the 6-button MD pads so should be fairly near to the 'right' feel/

Or you could use an Xbone/PS4 controller.

So, thought I'd try out the GC emulation (first time I'd thought about this). Tried F-Zero GX first but the sound is screwed. Then tried Zelda and Mario Kart and although both appear to work, the graphics looked a bit cack. ...and then I found out about the internal setting - free HD remakes of GC games. Downloading a different version of F-Zero GX, hopefully that will work. Also tried RE4 but that didn't seem to get past the start screen, may try a different version of that.

Got a ROM from somewhere else that worked.

After some faffing with the controller setup, managed to play the Wii version of Mario Kart on my PC. As it plays in a higher resolution than the Wii, have to wonder how much effort goes into these so called "HD remakes"....

I'm right at the end of my mario sunshine playthrough on dolphin and it's been mostly brilliant. I always liked the game but it's far far better than I remember it being. It looks beautiful in high resolution too, as you say it makes you wonder why it can't just be plonked on a disc and sold again.

Shadows of the Colossus in glorious 60 frames and high resolution. PS2 emulators improvements happened a lot since I last checked.

I was playing SOTC, Ico, and Tekken Tag today on Pcsx2. It's a fantastic emulator. Having games like SOTC in 60fps is incredible

How easy is PCSX2 to set up? I've used a Playstation emulator before (ePSXe?) and it was a right faff.

Anyway, with my new PC I've downloaded Dolphin - glorious. :datass: Playing games I've owned before and some that didn't get released over here or were impossible to find. Looks great, and near-constant 60fps on most titles is nice.

It's fairly easy to set up. Can be a bit of a pain getting some games to play nice tho, but for the most part you can be up and playing games in a few minutes

I'm pretty sure you can, just google USB Genesis pads or something similar. I was using a program that made PS3 pads work on a computer but AVG kept flagging it up as malware so I uninstalled it just in case. Wired 360 pads are plug and play on PC so I'm using one of those now. I have A, B and C mapped to X, A and B.
