Not sure if this is any use anyone other than people who went to school with these things, but there is a BBC Micro website where you can play the games in your browser.

Teashop is playable :datass:

As a former BBC Micro (Model B) owner that is a great site.

It was my first ever piece of games hardware and I got it on my very first day of School, aged 4, pre-dating my GameBoy by 2-3 years and my SNES by 4-5 years.

So many games I remember as a kid.

Literally just sort it by "Popular" and you'll see some of the classics I grew up with.

Chuckie Egg - Still might be in my top 10-20 games of all time.
Killer Gorilla (Donkey Kong clone)
Space Invaders
Mr Ee! (Mr Do clone)
Repton 3
Starship Command
Cylon Attack
Imogen
Great Britain (A political management sim where you become the government of the day)

The BBC might not have had the broader commercial impact of the other 8-bit Micros, but it was a beefy bit of kit and has some fantastic games. Especially the ports and clones which are often as close to the Arcade as you could expect back then. It would have been interesting to see how it faired had it been a bit cheaper.

I can only dream of the stuff Codemasters and other devs could have done with it and as a kid I would have killed for a port of one of the Dizzy games. We did get some of the Ultimate games though.

Best part was when my Dad would come home with a new floppy disk he'd gotten from a workmate loaded with new games to play.

I really want a Model B now. To eBay!

EDIT: Yeah these aren't particularly cheap anymore. :? I'd still like to get one though.

It was one of the later games I remember playing on it. Had that cool high-res mode which made it look quite nice.

Switching the various animal forms to solve puzzles was great fun.

That said it's been so long since I've played some of these games that it's hard to say how well they've aged.

I didn't have one myself so only ever played the educational games (angle invader  )on the BBC micros in primary school and even then that was very rarely.

During my final year at primary school they'd started using the Acorn Archimedes, which I have massive nostalgic love for.

We had one in school, with Podd, Teashop and Chuckie Egg.

I remember typing some rude stuff into Podd to see if he would do it. He never did, the wee strawberry floater.

BBC micro, that takes me back  Fond memories of tinkering with logo.

Granny's Garden :dread:

Acorn Archimedes :datass: Zarch/lander was probably the first 3D game I ever played come to think of it. Maybe the spynx jinx on my Amstrad.

We used to spend lunchtime playing a cracking golf game on the Archimedes at school. Can't remember what it was called. There was also an e-type outrun clone that was pretty good.

I'm trying and failing to get retroarch to work on my switch so I can play NBA Jam TE.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Nintendo have killed Steam-y Dolphin.

Nintendo "did not send Valve or Dolphin a Digital Millennium Copyright Act", nor has it "taken any legal action against Dolphin Emulator or Valve".

Rather, a lawyer representing Nintendo contacted Valve and requested it "prevent Dolphin from releasing on the Steam store, citing the DMCA as justification".

I can't really imagine that anything of real value has been lost.

They've said that they think most of the features in the Steam version will be carried over to the main builds and you can still just import Dolphin as a non-steam game if you want.
It's already got a built-in updater as well.

So yeah, sucks for the team but it doesn't really change anything. All it might have done is make it a bit easier for Steam Deck users.
The Big Picture type UI sounds good though. That could be very useful on the Deck.

At least they didn't push it though. The last thing we need is Nintendo confident of winning a legal battle that could destroy about 30 years worth of emulation development.

Been playing my miyoo loads, nearly every day since I've got it. Most plays are a quick 10 minutes here and there, but I also get stuck in to some games. Was playing the ps1 MGS last night.

I'm after a handheld emulator that is pre loaded with games, I'd love to be able to play Dreamcast games, arcade games and also SNES games. Is is possible to buy a pre loaded one? Any recommendations?

Wish my image sig would work

Handheld emulation FTW

Old games suit small screens really well.

I was playing through FF VII on my retroid, need to get back into it.

Honestly I wouldn't recommend a preloaded one as the ROMs they use tend to be ass, like they will strip the music off of CD based games to save space and stuff like that.

However if you were going to get a preloaded one and you wanted it to be powerful enough to do dreamcast Anbernic 405M is probably your best bet.

Thank you. Been researching and I think I can probably get away with using my laptop as it's pretty powerful and I could use an Xbox controller.

Thanks to this lovely forum's members I now have my emulator set up. :datass:

Been playing Marvel Vs capcom 2 on the Dreamcast, music is as ever. My team of cable, ice man and Cyclops still feel as great as ever.

Tried Zombies Revenge on the Dreamcast tell, it's a house of the dead spin off, streets of rage with zombies. But 3D and clunky and hell.

Sonic Adventure 2 and Crazy Taxi kick off with some amazing music. Pure adrenaline. Both are much harder than I remember.

Hopefully get a few more games this weekend. Planning on getting Plasma Sword, power stone 1 and 2, soul calibre and dynamite cop.

Wish my image sig would work
