I use launchbox as a frontend for all my emulators and roms. It pulls all the artwork, boxes, screenshots and descriptions (Even some audio files and videos) for everything I have on it. Means if I want to see every Mega Man game I just need to search for it and it pops up. Great piece of software.

It's full screen interface is really cool as well.

FPSE, the PS1 emulator I use on my phone, gets cover art too, it's great.

I tried Launch Box a while ago but MAME ran terribly with it, likely due in part to my ancient laptop. I'd like to try it again on a better machine.

I knew I should have taken more time to backup/curate the roms I've acquired over the years. I fell into the foolish trap of thinking "oh it will always be easy to get hold of these again..." :fp:

MAME is the one thing I've not run through it yet, mostly due to having to go through the Romset to curate the games I actually want. Launchboxes built in scraper is pretty good at pulling the metadata and associated assets but it's not particularly fast and when it can't find one it's time consuming to fix them manually. That's compounded by the sheer volume of games within a MAME romset which dwarves my entire non-mame library by about four or five times.

I have a large but selective MAME collection mostly Cave shooters, SNK games, Konami side scrollers, CPS1/2/3 games and some other gubbins such as Banpresto, IREM and Toaplan games. I tried playing Aero Fighters through Launch Box and it ran in slow motion. I might try it again with another less resource intensive emu.

Launchbox integrates really well with Retroarch, which makes it easy to just download the relevant core and go from there, but more and more I'm using the dedicated emulators for certain systems.

The Retroarch desmume DS core has awful sound issues and I can't find anyway to rotate the system to play stuff like Hotel Dusk, so I just use the normal version of it instead.

Similarly the PS2 core is shite as well.

Launchbox is quite flexible in that you can point it at any emulator and it seems to work.

The only games I'm still struggling a little with through LB anyway are Saturn and CDi games (Gotta get me some shitty non-Canon Zelda games :datass: ), but that's because I need to properly sit down and figure them out.

The BigBox mode interface for using it a TV is pretty sweet as well, though it's a bit more performance heavy.

I understand Saturn is a nightmare to emulate at the best of times I couldn't even get ST-V (Saturn based arcade hardware) games working at anything approaching playable levels on MAME.

Shut your mouth, the Saturn was amazing.

Plus you can replace the disc drive with an SD card reader now like you can on a Dreamcast.

I love my Saturn. So under-appreciated in it's time. Softmodding it earlier in the year was one of the best (and easiest) things I ever did. Backup discs all over the place.

The problem there is having to keep all the discs, plus the risk of the drive eventually giving up (which I think has been a common problem on the Dreamcast)
I've got a Dreamcast and keep thinking of getting a GDEmu for it.
Also keep thinking of getting a Saturn and then a RHEA/Phoebe for it.

Yeah that's the worry. If the drive ever goes then I'll get an SD mod for it, but till then I'm happy with the backups. I don't really use it all that often anyway so hopefully won't have any issues. Just occasionally replacing the battery.

My ROM backups are progressing slowly but steadily. So far it's completed my Famicom Disk System, PC-Engine/TG16 CD, Game Boy (Not Colour or Advance yet), 3DO, 32X and Wonderswan games. Currently working on some PS3 games which has taken the better part of 12 hours so far with no end in sight. Luckily I found a Google Drive archive someone else had for all the WiiWare releases (Including the VC) so I've transferred that over as well.

Still got:

NES, SNES, GBC, GBA, DS, 3DS, N64, GC, Wii and Wii U.
Master System, Mega Drive, Mega CD, Saturn, Dreamcast and Game Gear.
PS1, PS2 and PSP.
Jaguar, CDi, MAME, Wonderswan, Neo Geo Pocket.

There's probably more, but it's gonna be a long wait to get them all backed up.

EDIT: This is just my "curated" Launchbox selection so that's not including the other directories I've got with full Romsets for lots of those systems.

I've got about 4.5 - 5Tb of storage and I genuinely think about 20-25% of that is ROMS right now. :slol:

All my roms are scattered over various old hard drives, SD cards and even a CD full of Megadrive and MAME stuff so it's going to be a nightmare getting them backed up.

I had loads on my NAS but I've basically lost everything on it because the hardware died and the HDD is encrypted to that particular NAS (WD Mycloud), I don't really want to buy another as it is probably the worst bit of tech I've bought in recent years.

Just been trying to remember any sites I used to use before discovering paradise. There really don't seem to be any viable alternatives.

PM sent.

Be careful though, the sites aren't as pleasant as paradise was so a little common sense is advised when downloading anything.

Cheers, I shall proceed with caution!

I spent some time digging around in old HDDs last night and managed to unearth a fair chunk of stuff that I used to have, it's just a shame to lose the great archive online archive - I never used to be that concerned about not being able to access anything that I had lost!
